TCB Movie Club Makes Its Debut

I am officially the one millionth writer to make the Josh Hamilton/Roy Hobbs comparison? Do I win a prize?

We tried to start this back in January, but it didn't really take off, so I'm going to try it again. I thought about starting a book club that focused specifically on baseball books, but then realized that might take too much time. Instead, what better way to relieve the doldrums of the offseason than watching movies about baseball?

Each Friday, I'll post a movie that we can all watch over the weekend and discuss on Monday. I'm starting out with a softball, but I'm also including a poll where we can vote on next week's movie. If you have a suggestion that's not in the poll, leave it in the comments and we'll talk about it then. I'm sure timmy can help guide us to baseball movie greatness, too, with his love for the cinema.

Without further ado, our first selection for this weekend is The Natural. Go watch Robert Redford be awesome for the mythical New York Knights. Marvel at how cool Wilford Brimley is as Pop Fisher. Be prepared to discuss the movie on Monday, whether it be your favorite line, how realistic the baseball scenes are, casting changes, etc. I also have a cool idea for a column/question about the movie I'll be trotting out that morning, so look forward to that.

Until then, be sad for Sammy Gervacio's troubling injuries derailing a career that could have been very fun and be glad that the Rockies bit the bullet and acquired Jose Lopez. I'm swayed by Laynce Nix a little more than Church, but I still hold by my 1 million or Else philosophy. Whichever one accepts, that's who should be on the team.
