First Baseman Jimmy Van Ostrand's trip to the big leagues would be hastened if he could figure out a way to play all of his games in Midland, Texas. In 2009, Van Ostrand played 16 games at Midland for Corpus Christi. In those games, he was 26 for 65 with five doubles, eight home runs and 25 RBI.
In the other seven Texas League stadiums (including Whataburger Field) Van Ostrand batted .258 with 13 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 56 RBI.
If Midland is not an option, a new franchise in Europe may be a good plan B for Van Ostrand. In September, he was a major contributor as Team Canada claimed the Bronze Medal in the Baseball World Cup hosted by Europe. In 13 games, Van Ostrand batted .319 with three doubles, three home runs, 10 runs scored and 12 RBI.
