Astros Win, Mets Lose and the Brewers Now Tied for the NL Wild Card Lead

Title pretty much say it all! The Cubs did their job tonight and beat the Mets in extra innings 9-6 to keep any chance the Astros have at taking the NL Wild Card alive. With the win tonight by the Astros, we now sit 3 1/2 games behind the Mets and Brewers for the Wild Card lead.

The Astros played well tonight behind an excellent starting pitching performance by Randy Wolf. Wolf went 6 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits, 2 walks and no runs while striking out 7 and earning his 12th win of the season and 5th as an Astro.

Like I stated above, the win tonight moves the Astros 3 1/2 game out of the Wild Card lead and keeps the Astros magic number at 2. In order for the Astros to take the Wild Card lead, the following items cannot happen throughout the rest of the season.

  • Astros lose 2 more games
  • Brewers and/or Mets win 2 more games each
  • Astros lose 1 and the Mets and/or Brewers win 1
I haven't done this in a while, so I figured I'd go ahead and see what the ole Magic 8-Ball has to say about the Astros playoff chances.
