When I first heard that Brian Moehler was going to be making a start or two a week or so ago, I'll admit that I wasn't real happy to be hearing it. Moehler hasn't exactly impressed me while pitching for the Astros over his last 2 seasons... that being said, Brian has yet to give up more than 3 runs in a start(even though, he's also yet to pitch more than 5 innings) and he's kept the team in games... so that's more than I expected him to do. If he can do that again tonight, I have faith that we have a good shot to win. Moehler has pitched 5 innings in each of his starts and given up 6 runs over those 15 innings to earn a 3.60 ERA as a starter.
The Phillies are sending Bret Myers to the hill. Myers has been a pretty shaky starter this season giving up 6 runs or more in 3 of his 10 starts and has lost all 4 of his last 4 decisions. Hopefully he keeps that streak up tonight.
Astros hitters against Myers
- Ty Wigginton, 20 AB's with a .400 avg and 1 home run
- Lance Berkman, 17 AB's with a .118 avg and 1 home run
- Mark Loretta, 17 AB's with a .353 avg and 1 RBI
- Kaz Matsui, 20 AB's with a .300 avg and 1 RBI
We all know how good Lance has been doing this May, but who do you think the 2nd best Astros this May has been? If you didn't guess it, it's Hunter Pence.
It's really nice to see the Hunter we all expected to see. Through April, Hunter was hitting .250 with a .283 OBP and only slugging .370. With the nice May, Hunter has raised his avg to .294, his OBP to .345 and his slg to .486. I'd still like to see those stats raise some, but that is much closer to what I expected from Hunter this season.
