Well, Cecil Cooper's managerial debut for the Astros didn't go as planned as the Astros lost in pathetic fashion 0-7 to the "hated" Cardinals. Hopefully things change tonight as the Astros send their Ace(and only real good starting pitcher) to the mound to face Kip Wells. Now that all of the Biggio celebrations and Bagwell Retirements are over... what do we have to look forward to the rest of the season? The Astros are for all intents and purposes, out of playoff contention and hold the worst record in the division at 58-74. Owner Drayton McLane tried to stir things up by firing player-liked coach Phil Garner and the too-nice GM in Tim Purpura, but many Astros fans think the root of the problem starts with Drayton, who time and time again tries to control too much of the baseball operations.

This may sound weird, but I feel bad for Cecil Cooper. I feel he can only fail as the manager for the Astros. He has 31(now 30) games to prove that he can manage the team, and he's stuck with an already last place team with little starting pitching, no offense and a shoddy defense. I think it will take a miracle for him to keep his position as manager next season... even if he is(and I believe he is) and reasonable choice to lead the team into the future.
