The future arrives tonight in the form of my new favorite lefthander. . . can you say "Troyalicious?"

Yes, indeed, the future is now, except that we'll still have Biggio botching first inning grounders, we'll still have Chris Burke chasing high fastballs and fouling out to first, and we'll still have Brad Lidge allowing ninth inning homers.

Another extra-inning loss to the Pirates, another disastrous homestand, and our prize pitching prospect on the mound has got me thinking about the future . . . and also about the trade deadline just passed.

This team is playing out the string, and auditioning next year's talent, but somehow found itself unwilling to pull the trigger before the deadline that might have brought more young talent to mine. It was spun that nobody was offering fair value for Lamb, or Loretta (or Lidge), and that may be so.

But I wonder if Purpura's GM brethren might not see Tim as having a face to fleece. After all, why come to the table with equitable value, when it doesn't seem to have been a requirement in past deals?

Ah, but I digress. As has been said elsewhere, I'm not here to talk about the past. I'm here to talk about the future, Troy Patton, Juan Gutierrez, Matt Albers, Hunter Pence, Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman, to be sure . . . and a new freaking GM.
