Two days ago things were looking a little brighter for the Astros who sat only 8 1/2 games back from the NL Central lead. Two days later, the margin sits at 10 1/2 games and all those happy thoughts from the previous few days are gone, and Astros fans are back to reality... and reality is bad. Last night should have been an easy victory as Wandy Rodriguez pitched wonderfully again going 7 innings and giving up 1 earned run. Unfortunately, 7 innings isn't enough to win the game and the bullpen (Qualls/Lidge) was terrible giving up 6 runs in the remaining 2 wins to give Wandy a no decision, even though he deserved the win.

Lidge is now blowing saves at rate just over 41% of the time (5 blown saves in 12 chances). For someone who has the stuff that he has and has never really seemed to lose his stuff. I would be very surprised if given the same number of save chances, that even someone like Trever Miller would blow saves at that high of a rate. Speaking of Miller(who has been outstanding lately), Miller hasn't given up a run since June 28th in Colorado. That's 18 straight outings(13.2 innings) in which Miller's pitched without giving up a run. In this time, he's lowered his ERA from 7.91 to 4.64. If the game was on the line tonight... I'd be more comfortable putting Miller out there than Lidge.
