Greg Maddux | Roy Oswalt |
7 - 7, 4.19 | 9 - 6, 3.80 |
Hmm, two twenty-year players in this game.
Craig Biggio has faced Greg Maddux 137 times since 1989. He grounded out in his first plate appearance vs Maddux, on May 13, 1989 in a 1 - 0 Astros road victory over the Chicago Cubs, and grounded out third to first in his last plate appearance vs. the guy on July 19, 2006, when the Astros made a road winner of Roger Clemens in the last matchup of 300-game winners to date.
In between, Biggio accumulated 38 hits, 7 walks, 6 doubles and two homers off the pitcher who will most likely go down as the second-greatest pitcher of his era, and one of the craftiest of all times.
Overall, Biggio's numbers vs. Maddux look pretty good, considering. He's hitting .299 of Maddog with a .346 OBP and a .394 slugging. It occurs to me that a 1 for 3 day--or better--would get Bidge to a .300 career batting average off the future Hall of Famer.
That'd be pretty cool, I think.
Overall, Maddux is 26 - 14 vs. Houston with a 2.77 ERA, and Roy Oswalt is 6 - 1 with a 2.44 against San Diego.
