Game Hero, 34 - 46

Mark Loretta
  • 2 for 3, 1 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI
  • Second homer of the year
  • Second career walkoff homer, and first for Houston
  • Second game with 3 runs scored this year, and the 17th of his career
  • He's playing short, he's playing first, he's playing second. He's playing all three for only the third time in his career.

After Biggio struck out early on, I wrote something like, "the magic's gone," but obviously I was drawing the wrong conclusion, because the magic seems alive and well.

The team had never before won back-to-back games on walkoff homers.

Mark Loretta had one homer on the year; he had one career walkoff homer.

Needless to say Fuentes--who ain't Billy Wagner, but also ain't David Weathers--had never given up game-losing homers in consecutive games.

So the odds were long as Loretta stepped in.

But he got it done, we won, let's see some more.
