Matchup/Game Thread Game # 152 vs. Cardinals

Chris Carpenter Andy Pettitte
15 - 6, 2.79 13 - 13 4.37

I don't know if Carpenter's Cy Young campaign can be derailed, but if it can, now is the time to do it.

I forget whether it was matt s or littlevisigoth or MG who said that they'll probably be rooting for the Cardinals in the playoffs, but I can't be charitable towards the (House of) Cards, because every time I glance in their direction, I see flaws that a better-equipped and better-composed Houston team could have exploited.

Call it sour grapes, you'd probably be right, but there it is.

Giving the Cy to a reliever is a joke, but I'd rather see them give it to Wagner than to Carpenter. At least Wagner's an ex-Astro, and there's no question that the Mets are legitimately better than anything the Stros might have come up with.

So yeah, rock his ass, ruin their party, fuck yeah.

Andy's ERA has gotten almost respectable, I see. And while the short work he's done in September computes to a 3.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, it's a little scary noting that he gave up two homers in August over almost 48 innings, and has given up two over nine innings in September.
