How we won 'em in '05: six quality innings from the starter, then an inning a piece from Chad Dan and Brad.
Don't know how the club finds the guts to bring out Lidge out in the ninth inning of a close game, but somehow, they got away with it. Each time Lidge incurs another catastrophe, you think, 'OK, that's finally it. NOW the club will banish him,' but it never happens.
The club's intestinal fortitude certainly outstrips mine, but this morning at least, it's all's well that ends well.
The offense, however, was again terrible, unable to get anything going, stranding Luke after his leadoff double in the seventh, after failing to get the bunt down, striking out five times overall, and popping to the infield four more. If the pitching was atypical, the hitting was not.
Kudos to Luke, though, for his two hits with the double. And yay Morgan Ensberg! A double, a single, and the game's only run. Perhaps the successful rehab stint at Round Rock portends good things, after all.
