1 - 2, 3.93 | 1 - 2, 6.35 |
I'll take a wait and see attitude on this one, seeing as how we have just escaped with the W the last two nights. Beating these guys three in a row would be tremendous, but is it too much to ask?
Geoff Jenkins comes in with an extra base hit in four straight games, and he has a 1.061 OPS career against Andy. Carlos Lee is only 8 for 33 against Pettitte, but somehow, that doesn't make me feel any better about facing him tonight.
No Astro has more than 10 at bats against Capuano, but as long as you don't mind small sample sizes, half the team OPSes 1.00 or over vs. the guy. For example, Bruntlett's at 2.381 with 4 hits comprising the cycle in 6 at bats. Berkman is 5 for 10 with a 1.245, couple doubles but no homers as you might expect.
Capuano and Pettitte matched up last May 29 at Milwaukee in a Sunday matinee. A wonderful pitcher's duel was won by Houston 2 - 1, the margin of difference being Eric B's fifth inning three bagger that drove in Ausmus.
Bruntlett and Berkman had two hits, Lamb had one, and that was it.
The since-departed Chris Magruder hit a solo shot off Wheeler in the eighth for the Brew Crew's lone tally that day.
Think our best chance at a victory might be an Andy Pettitte complete game, but I'd guess the chances for that were none too great either. Call me cautiously pessimistic. . . .
