well.. I'm watching the game so..
Maybe I can do some updates on the game.

Top first, error by Tejada.  Chacon has bases loaded but gets out of it.

Bottom first, 3 up 3 down.

2nd inning
Top of first : Chacon gets 3 up 3 down

Bottom of first: Astros score 5
couple of highlights.  Bourn infield hit, Tejada bloop double, Loretta stolen base (bad throw on what should have been a hit and run but Cruz took the strike)  Lee 2 of the 3 outs, Quintero smashed a double to right center.  Tejada base running error that should have let him score on Q's double.  Tejada scores anyway.  I forget the rest.  I'll try and be consistent for the rest of the game, until my kid gets hungry and I have to feed him :)

3rd Inning
Top 3rd: 5-0 Astros

Young pops out to Bourn (JD did make a Bourne identity comment earlier)

Ethier walks.

Martin singles to center on a 3-1 pitch.  (Ethier to 2nd)

(Berkman is looking more and more like Elvis today, his beard is somewhat grown out but when the light catches it just right he looks like he has some crazy sideburns)

Loney 3 balls, then watches 2 strikes before singling to Pence.  Ethier scores, Martin to 3rd.
5-1 Astros.

Sweeney Singles to right, Martin Scores and Loney moves to 3rd.
5-2 Astros.

Repko (yet another 3-2 count for Chacon) lines the ball over Cruz in left for a double, Loney scores and Sweeney to 3rd.
5-3 Astros.

DeWitt triples over Pence in right (in regular season I think Pence catches that ball, somewhat looping ball that hits the wall about chest high)

5-5 tie score

Squeeze play foiled by breaking ball Dewitt out in the run down.  2 outs.

DeJesus Walks.

Logan grounds to Tejada who forces DeJesus at 2nd.

Middle of the 3rd, 5-5 tie.

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 1:15 PM CDT reply actions

Bottom of 3rd
Tejada leads off with a broken bat grounder to 2nd that is booted and then thrown into  foul territory in which Tejada takes 2nd.

Blum lines out to center, Tejada tags and takes 3rd.

Loretta hits a solid grounder to short, Tejada runs on contact and beats the throw to home.  Loretta fielder's choice to first.

Cruz grounds weakly to 2nd, should have been a double play but the throw to first is wild.  Cruz on first, 2 outs.

Quintero line drive to 2nd base (would probably have been a base hit but Cruz was running on the pitch and the 2nd baseman caught the ball trying to cover 2nd.

6-5 Astros.

4th inning
Top of the 4th : 6-5 Astros
Pitching change : Randolph in for Chacon

Young 3-2 count and walks.

Ethier 3-2 count, Randolph throws to first and Young is caught in no mans land running to 2nd and is tagged out after a small run down.  Ethier then pops out to Pence.  (I'm having issues typing Either instead of Ethier)
2 outs.

Martin pops out to Cruz in left

6-5 Astros

funny
i'm having issues reading Ethier as Either.  my dyslexia is pretty advanced.  let it go.  we'll know who you're talking about.

bottom of the 4th
Bourn Leads off and gets to first (listening to tv, but evidently he either got an infield hit or caused an error)

Pence, Bourn steals 2nd but takes 3rd on bad throw and Pence strikes out (on same pitch that Bourn goes to 3rd on

Berkman flies to center and Bourn scores.

Lee grounds to 3rd for the final out.

7-5 Astros

have they showed
Billy Crystal striking out in the first inning against the Pirates?

just checking the box score and seeing that they had him as the DH, batting 1st, and he struck out in his one at bat.  didn't expect any different, but wonder how bad it was.  not sure how i feel about that whole scenario, but i like Billy Crystal, so at least part of me thinks it's neat (and yes, i feel comfortable using the word neat).

by littlevisigoth on Mar 13, 2008 1:42 PM CDT reply actions

nope..
All Astros and Dodgers talk so far.

5th Inning
Top of the 5th : 5-7 Astros

Been talking to Cooper since the bottom of the 4th.  Either Berkman or Lee are p etitioning to get taken out (wasn't paying enough attention)

Loney leads off, grounds out to 2nd.  Blum makes a good backhand grab and throws him out.

Sweeney k's on decent looking slider (nice to see Randolph getting a lefty on a nice pitch)

Repko k's on same pitch that evidently works on righties as well..

Nice inning by Randolph 3 up 3 down

Still 7-5 Astros.

Bottom of the 5th
Kershaw in pitching for the Dodgers, replaced Proctor who evidently pitched the 4th (sorry I missed the change... who cares it's the Dodgers! :)  )

Tejada doubles to left center on 1-0 pitch

This Kershaw kid is from Dallas.

Loretta takes a 4 pitch walk.
Runners on 1st and 2nd for Cruz.

Cruz (I wonder if it's going to be weird for Cruz, Jr. to play in Houston where his father was so great?) New 2nd baseman for the Dodgers Manza(sp) boots what should be a fairly easy double play ball.  Bases now loaded for Q.

Quintero hits a blazing line drive to 3rd which doubles off Loretta.  Oh yeah, Blum popped to 2nd somewhere in all that.  3 outs no runs scored

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Kershaw is a phenom.
He is 19 years old lefthander and throws 97-99 on his fastball, with a devastating curveball.  He is so good that the Dodgers moved him to the major league camp.  Torre compared him to Sandy Koufax, before he caught himself and realized that he shouldn't put that kind of pressure on the kid. Dodgers' major league players all believe that Kershaw can pitch in the majors now, but the Dodgers also have to be careful about preserving his arm.

6th Inning 7-5 Astros
Top of the 6th
Geary pitching for the Stros

Dewitt singles

DeJesus singles to Pence, runners on 1st and 2nd.

Logan tries to bunt but pops up, but Q isn't able to run it down (JD makes comment about even though he lost 30 lbs he's still not going to run that down)  Logan strikes out.

JD and Brownie talking about the helmet rule for 3rd base coaches.  JD makes the comment that if they have to wear it then pitchers should too.. Guess he forgets that pitchers have a glove.  Both agree that rule should be optional for coaches.

Young pops to Loretta at 3rd.

Ethier grounds out to Berkman.

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 2:09 PM CDT reply actions

Bottom of the 6th, still 7-5 Stros
Bourn leads off with an hard line drive to left field but caught on the run.

Pence dribbles the ball to the pitcher and is thrown out at first.  Pence will have a bobblehead this year...

Abercrombie batting for Berkman.
Abercrombie walks

Talking about Billy Crystal DHing for the Yanks.  They say he hit a foul ball atleast.

Abercrombie is picked off and thrown out at 2nd trying to steal.

Booooo

7th Inning, yet again still 7-5 Astros
Changes for Astros
Abercrombie in center, Perez in short, Quintero at first now, Johnson catching and someone playing 3rd.  Newhan at 2nd.  Bah who cares till they bat right?
Geary still pitching.
Still talking about Q losing weight and some comment about catchers should be able to wear their chest protector while playing the field.

Martin walks to lead off.

Loney K's on 3 pitches.

Edwin Masonez? playing 3rd for the Astros.  Who knows, he just came from minor league camp.

Sweeney singles to center, runners on first and 2nd.

Carlos Santanna pitch running for Sweeney.  Evidently he can play the guitar and run like the wind. :)

Simon GIDP to end the inning.

bottom of the 7th
new pitcher Seanez for the Dodgers.

Tejada leads off with a pop up to 3rd.

Newhan hits a shot down the line but Loney makes a great play and digs it out of the chalk and tosses to Seanez for the out at first.

Perez pops to Etheir in left for the 3rd out.  3 up 3 down

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 2:34 PM CDT reply actions

8th inning. Still 7-5 Astros
New pitcher Ryan Houston.

Dewitt takes the first pitch deep to right field.

7-6 Astros.

DeJesus hits one up the center that deflects off of Houston (the pitcher not the city) and goes into right field for a single.

Logan check swing chopper to Newhan at 2nd, tags DeJesus running to 2nd but is just a little tardy on the throw to first for the double play.  Logan on first 1 out.

Maysonet is the astros 3rd baseman, sorry I couldn't figure out that name.

Young flies out to left(or so they say).  Camera never showed it, they were fixed on Logan trying to steal 2nd.

Ethier up to bat.  Houston airmails a ball that Johnson(catcher) barely got a glove on but still goes to the backstop.  Logan moves to 2nd.  Ethier walks.  Runners on first and 2nd.

Bennent(?) hits a shot up the middle, Newhan makes a great play getting to the ball to save a run but isn't able to make a throw. Bases loaded w/ Loney up to bat.

Loney softly lines to Maysonet at 3rd to end the inning.  Phew!

7-6 Astros.

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 2:50 PM CDT reply actions

Bottom of the 8th
Alfredo Simon pitching for the Dodgers

Maysonet leads off for the Astros. 3-2 count, walks.

Cruz 3-2 count, fly out to left field.  1 out.

Quintero to bat.  Simon balks sending Maysonet to 2nd.  Q hits a weak bouncer to 2nd who throws to first for an out.  Maysonet to 3rd.

Johnson grounds out to short to end the inning

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

9th inning 7-6 Astros
Top of the 9th, Hines pitching for the Astros

Santanna singles to right.

Maza lines out to a diving Newhan who doubles off Santanna at first.  2 outs.

DeWitt who is a double short of the cycle up to try and extend this game. Walks.

DeJesus pops out to Pence.

Astros win!  Hines gets the save.
Dodgers 6 12 4
Astros  7 8  1

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

Wow..
4 errors for the Dodgers, I bet Torre is thrilled about that.  I heard that this was a split squad for the Dodgers, that half of their team was somewhere else(I can't remember where though).

After some research, they are in China.

Go 'Stros!

Out of curiosity...
does that mean that Lasorda was in the dugout like the other day... when was arguing in the second?

Lasorda's the man.

by TexSkins on Mar 13, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions

yes.
They said the Kissimme crowd gave him a big applause when he took the lineup cards out.

by clack on Mar 13, 2008 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah
he was in the dugout.  JD was making fun of him for the squeeze play.  At one point they had Lasorda on camera talking to fans in the stands.

by TimStros on Mar 13, 2008 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions

"Lasorda's the man"
We can say that now. But I remember when Lasorda was one of the most lustily booed people in the Astrodome.  Some of the bad feelings had to do with his decisions to leave Astros off the All Star team.
