bah
40 pitches or 2 innings!  I say let him go 40 pitches, that should get him through the 4th inning right? :)

Just tuned in
he'll wear on me probably by opening day, but for now i can say it's nice to hear Milo's voice again.

looks like Wandy tossed 2 scoreless with one hit and three K's.  not gonna make wild speculative statements about a break-out year, but it's certainly better than getting lit up in his first ST appearance.

Yep..
Mclemore on the other hand, has already walked 3 and hasn't started his 2nd inning yet.

For those of you who saw and/or heard...
who looked good?  Who looked bad?

I noticed that Pence played... did he look healthy?  Did Bourne look good as good as the box score suggests?

Tell me, tell me...

I only had audio.
The positive on Bourne is that he seemed to be patient at the plate.  Took some pitches, trying to get on base. And when he got on base, he stole 2d, which enabled him to score easily on a blooper by Loretta.  I don't recall anything notable on Pence; he tried to throw somebody out at 1st base when he caught a line drive and the Indians had a hit and run on...apparently it was close and Pence showed a decent arm.

Wandy was probably the best positive.  He pitched well. The only hit he allowed was because Loretta couldn't throw out Sizemore on a bouncer to short (and Sizemore is fast).

It seemed like the Astros had ragged defense, which isn't that unusual early in the season.  I was surprised J.R. House played some 3d base; I think he and Niekro are trying to show they can play both corner infield positions.  But it seemed like House was erratic at 3d base.

Good news on Hunter Pence
I listened to a few innings. In one of them Hunter Pence slid into second, apparently without injuring his knee (or his hand). I'm uncertain, but I believe he was out at second, but his feeling secure enough in his health to slide (and not reinjure himself) brightened my day.

Bad day for LH Relievers.
McLemore, Randolph, and Wright all had control problems. The Astros need to find someone who can handle the LH specialist role in the bullpen.  Those 3 guys are in competition for the job, but didn't really look good.  Of course, it's only the first spring game, and they have many more chances to show their stuff.

i was going to make the same comment
missed most of the game, except for parts of the 3rd and 4th innings (darn work).  Not a good sign that our only three lefty candidates came out of the gate stumbling, but at least they all got work.  there's certainly a long ways to go before opening day.

Like the stat line on Bourn, and the one play I heard him make in the outfield, Milo commented on him taking control and communicating well with Pence.  It's too early to get excited (except just about the fact that there's baseball being played) or nervous, but with so little to talk about in the last couple months, it's hard not to.

Tomorrow will be a home game, so Tejada, Lee, and some of the other regulars should get some action.  Hopefully I'll be able to listen to the whole thing.

A 12-2 blowout has never been such a welcome occurance.  It's good to have baseball back, even if it's just the first day of ST.

12-2...
Oh well, Bourn got a hit and a SB. The rest will come. I hope Tejada plays when I see them on both Monday vs. Yanks AND Tues. vs. Tigers.

Don't hate because I live in FL.

I Heard That
Stopping by to see what's up with the team (as opposed to what's up with our minor league batting practice thrower, which I can get from any of fifty media outlets).

I read a sentence about Geoff Geary having trouble above, and I'm like, "what does this have to do with the Astros?"

Then I remembered, we traded for him last October.

It's a new era, certainly.

Anyway, how is everyone?  I'm still barely keeping up with things, and on purpose, too.  It's good you don't have anybody so goddmaned cynical as I've become hanging around. . . . well, at least it looks like maybe crooked  Uncle Drayton will send Roger home.

Take care all, happy 2008 baseball season, i'll drop in again at some point soon

Hey man
Sounds like he's not sending him home... we'll see what happens when/if he's ever actually charged with anything.

Take care man
