Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Game Hero, 73 - 89

Felipe Paulino

  • W, 2 - 1
  • 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 K, 3 BB
  • Ends the season with 9 straight scoreless innings
  • .285 Pitcher's WPA

His ERA's 7.11, but I've been pretty impressed with Paulino from what I've seen. My understanding of him was that he had a high 90's fastball and nothing else, but he's got some breaking stuff, too.

He's not yet been able to control it consistently, but it's good sharp breaking stuff, too. Astro fans have been focussed--and rightly so--on Troy Patton, but man, if Paulino can control his curveball, he's gonna be a big star.

And even if he doesn't, he'll always have today, when he pitched six innings of shutout ball on the day a legend retired.

I'm still getting caught up from when I was out for the week or so, but I'd like to publish many of the various charts I've been compiling all year now that the season is complete, just so, I dunno, we can maybe figure out, you know, why we sucked so hard.

Beyond that, even if you're not all that into tables and graphs and stuff, StrosBro and I will both be participating in the SBN Baseball Awards. Ballots are due Wednesday I think, and I hope that we each can put together a short post detailing what we thought and maybe even why.

Beyond that, we got playoffs, and whatever other offseason sheanigans Drayton has planned.

So things will be slowing down, but not necessarily grinding to a halt.

Nevertheless, it is a good time to say, Thank you all for spending that part of the season that you did with us here at TCB. It wasn't a season that was up to usual Astro standards, but it was still pretty fun.

Brad Ausmus offered contract extention
The Houston Astros have offered Ausmus a one year deal with the supposed purpose of tutoring J.R. Towles. I think this is an excellent idea.

Expect Ausmus to accept the deal
because it's what he said he wanted - backup catching and a chance to help with the "next" catcher.  I hope he stays with the Astros and doesn't go to San Diego which he has mentioned as his other choice.

Cooper announced his coaching staff for 2008:

Rastro and Stros Bro
Thanks for all your work this summer.  You both did a great job, and it's much appreciated.  This site has added much to my knowledge and enjoyment of baseball over the past two seasons.

As we used to say about the football team at my college, "Wait till next year!"  We still say that, come to think of it....

Thanks
But, this site would be nothing with out readers and commenters, so the praise should be towards you guys/gals. It's been a fun season(and my first and hopefully not last) season here as a blogger at TCB. Sadly it wasn't the season we all hoped fur, but it was full of memories nonetheless.

In case you missed the biggio farewell in the game.. you can check it out here.

Thanks from Korea
Just to back up what bwhite mentioned in thanking both you (Stros Bro) and Rastro (the main man) for great work this year on the blog. Because I don't watch many games and am usually at work when the games are on (or sleeping when they are afternoon starts), I relied on this site extensively for info and PBP. Like you said, wish the results of the season were better for the Stros but you guys (and all the commenters on the site) made the season a good one in my books and for that, just want to express my gratitude. Let's hope that the young players step up next year and Cooper gets the ship going in the right direction.

As always, Go Stros!

P.S. I just watched the highlights of Biggio's farewell and my eyes welled up in tears. Biggio will be missed! Looking forward to both Biggio and Bagwell's HOF induction speeches in 5 or 6 years!

Is Richard Justice Leaving Houston?
Richard Justice hinted in a blog today that he may leave Houston. I know he just started his own radio program so I cannot see him leaving Houston in the immediate future. Maybe he meant leaving the Chronicle. Maybe he meant long-term contract with the Chronicle and he's staying at least three more years. Maybe he meant leaving Houston. He's been praising life in the Northeast lately. Anybody with more information?
A Legend plays his final home series (and a few others do too).

Late HM
Carlos Lee, just for the season he gave us.  Thanks, Caballo.
Look on the bright side, Ausmus got us Loretta.
