Love the Zambrano Pic
Remember when Clemens went from being a jackass to being a hard-nosed competitor?  Yeah, that's right when he signed with the Astros.
Will 'Evil-Z' become 'Zambrano the Great' when signs with the Astros next year?  Go with me on this the thought makes me smile.

by TBurford on Aug 8, 2007 8:21 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Can't see it happening
Just don't think he's Astros material, as we usually avoid players with a history of being disruptive.

by bwhite2323 on Aug 8, 2007 12:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's not Astros material because...
he's probably going to get paid more than 20 million a year by the Yankees next year...
Go 'Stros!

Yucking Fankies
Adam Everett is my favorite player and I'm not afraid to admit it.

by entropic soul on Aug 8, 2007 12:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh come now.
We've well established that isn't necessary here.

Fucking Yankees.

I just thought it sounded funny :p

Great Yankee name
Wouldn't it be cool for the Yankees to have a player named

Gnikcuf Seeknay

or better yet

Seeknay Gnikcuf

And with fangs...
No offense to the Cubbies on the pic, by the way. :p

In Zambrano's own word
From Jose Ortiz's blog at the HC:

"Houston is a team that I've pitched real well. I don't know. I feel good against them, but it's a team that has very good hitters and we have to respect them always. There will be a day when I'll go to the mound and they'll give me wood, as one would say."

by clack on Aug 8, 2007 8:25 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nice pic
this could be the feel good game of the season (well, except for the 3000 game of course).  we've long since resolved that not much good is going to happen with this season, but a sweep of the flubbies, taking them down a notch in the Central race, with our best pitcher against our worst nemesis... it would be nice.

by littlevisigoth on Aug 8, 2007 9:23 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Cubbies left the bases loaded
in two of the first three innings. And we think the Astros are tough to root for!

It was blissful to be at the stadium last night, the Cubs fans were delightfully subdued.  If we can't be in the playoff hunt, is there anything better than beating the Cubs?

by bwhite2323 on Aug 8, 2007 11:58 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yes there is
something better.

beating the braves. :p

Barry Bonds link
My sister-in-law emailed me this link earlier this week. I thought it was going to be one of those he's the greatest or he's a steroid cheat diatribes. Instead it's (to me) an interesting piece on the purposes and effects of that body armour Bonds wears on his elbow.  Check it out:

Interesting...
Why does he still get to use something no one else can use anymore?

Howdy from a Newbie Member
Whats up guys - lifelong Astro's fan here living in the SF Bay Area. Actually Santa Cruz. I love the website and plan to read everyday. Being in SF area I have had to deal with Bonds all day everyday on the local stations. I hope its all almost over. I hate that fucker. After watching players like Biggio and Bags who played the game right, it blows having to see everyone worship Bonds out here -

ps - my 1st Astro game was when I was 2 yrs old in 1963

Hey! I take offense!
Okay, not really.  LOL.
Okay, I'll admit, maybe Loretta isn't such a bad guy. :DDD

Hunter Pence T-shirt Night?
Isn't this also Hunter Pence T-Shirt Night?

by Joe in Birmingham on Aug 8, 2007 1:47 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think so.
It's a shame, too--it seems like so far this year we've won a lot of the games with giveaways related to a particular player, and the player associated with the giveaway item usually had a great night.

At least I seem to recall Ausmus playing great on Ausmus surfer bobblehead night.

by BTastros on Aug 8, 2007 2:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wasn't Oswalt's best game
his bobblehead night too?
Okay, I'll admit, maybe Loretta isn't such a bad guy. :DDD

Can we have a team booblehead night?

Early Game Score Update
Brewers trail Rockies 8-0 in the bottom of the  third.

Also Jason Hirsch apparently was hit by a line drive recently and has a leg fracture.

by Joe in Birmingham on Aug 8, 2007 3:02 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ankle Fracture
Jason Hirsch may have an ankle bone fracture and not a leg fracture (though the ankle bone is connected to the leg bone).

by Joe in Birmingham on Aug 8, 2007 3:07 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And the leg bone is connected to the knee bone

11-0 Rockies now
So all we need is for the Brewers to go on a ten game losing streak and for us to go on a ten game (or 12, rather) winning streak. Totally doable. :p
Adam Everett is my favorite player and I'm not afraid to admit it.

by entropic soul on Aug 8, 2007 3:16 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

15-2 in the fourth
and Rockies still batting.

I love this entry from today's Brew Crew Ball:

Big Fat Bummer
Sheesh.  Way to come onto a road trip where Yost is "looking forward to the challenge" and completely stink like a week old corpse found in a sewer

by Joe in Birmingham on Aug 8, 2007 3:41 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow
15 runs already... I'd like to see us do that against the Cubs today. :p

Garret Atkins batting line through 4 innings
Nice Line through FOUR innings:

Colorado    AB R H RBI BB SO LOB AVG
Atkins, 3B   4  1 4  5   0  0  0 .283

Ryan Braun
Ryan Braun is the facvored ROY candidate since  Hunter Pence went on DL and Prince Fielder was at one time considered an MVP candidate, which makes these entries from Brew Crew ball insightful:

Braun
Meet baseball, pick up baseball and throw to first base.  Can we hide Braun in the outfield or something?  This is getting ugly every day.

by MunichBrats

Fielder
can't catch a grounder if there's a runner at third.

by tommyhawk

My wild idea
If the Brewers have a decent lead in the game, pull Braun and replace him with Counsell.

Eleven
11 earned runs for Gallardo.

That's so.. Jennings-esque...

by entropic soul on Aug 8, 2007 4:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

except
after giving up 11 ER in 2 2/3 innings, Gallardo's ERA is still only 4.20 (it was 2.55 coming into today).

Braun made his 17th error today
Bases loaded for Brewers with Prince Fielder batting. Flew out to end the inning.

Brew Crew did score in the inning.

16-3

Rockies have removed
Holliday, Helton and Garrett. That trio was 7 for 8,with 9 RBIs on the day.

Rockies "21" promotion
Rockies have a promotion where some company pays a lucky "fan of the day" $10,000 if the combined score for a game is exactly "21"

Fan busted today: Current score is 19-3 after 7.

Thanks to everyone for coming to the Ice Cream Social.  Please help yourself to the leftover ice cream cups and fruit in the refrigerator in the  Conference Room area.  Enjoy.

Dammit!
We don't have ice cream socials here at work. They have BBQs sometimes, but it's always before I get in.

17-3 Rockies in the bottom of the 7th.
