To Summarize: 6.67 ERA, 2.2 HR/9 IP, and an unlovely 1.59 WHIP

In his last start against the Pirates (and Chacon), Jason had his first truly outstanding start, giving up one run over seven innings, while walking two and striking out two.

And in St. Louis, it's the promising Anthony Reyes (1 - 0, 2.92 on the month) vs. Chris Young (7th in the league in ERA). And not to overly dramatize the Red Menace, but you might wanna root on Cy Sanchez down here in Florida as he faces the Reds' Chris Michalak.

I'll make it a quick ending here, so we can all watch baseball like we want. It's simple: Go Astros, Go Padres, and what the hell can't hurt, Go Marlins.

Only here for a bit
because I have to go out and try to get some decent shots of the sunset, but figured I'd throw in a "Go Astros!" comment.

So, Go Astros! (and Padres, and the Marlins)

Bottom of the 1st...
Duffy leading off.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:18 PM CDT reply actions

Thank GAWD that AB is over.

He's on w/ an RBI base-hit...
Bay up. A DP sure would be nice. Reasonable expectation, prolly not, but still.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:28 PM CDT up reply actions

He's on w/ a base-hit...
Runners @ 1st and 2nd w/ still only one out. Damned rookie starters!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:29 PM CDT up reply actions

why is *THEIR* crowd grumbling?
It's our guy that can't pitch out of a wet paper bag.

But Nady grounds to Mikey Chops for the 5-3 DP. I can dig!

1-0, Bucs.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Top of the 2nd...

C'mon, Aubrey, they've got a short porch for lefties like you there. C'mon, tie it up!

Doumit up. Shit. He hits it out on the first pitch.

^$#^&^*^$#^!

Bautista up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:41 PM CDT up reply actions

He flies out to Aubrey right near the...
RF corner. C'mon, Jason. We've said this of Andy before but why not you? Remove head from ass, THEN pitch!

Chacon up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:43 PM CDT up reply actions

He flies out to Aubrey to end the inning.
Aubrey 'running' full speed is hysterical.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:45 PM CDT up reply actions

He's on w/ a base-hit...
but props where props are due--happy Jack made a nice stop there even if he 5-hopped the throw to 1B.

Hirshy Bar up. C'moooon, Jason!

Mikey Chops up. Here it comes!;-)

Q scores on what only ends up being a sac fly by Mikey inspite of hitting it pretty hard.

Lance up w/ 1 on and 2 out.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Lance wuz robbed!
Seriously, Lance lines out softly to Bautista who makes a very nice diving catch.

Sigh. Well, at least we're on the board. 1 run is do-able!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:53 PM CDT up reply actions

He tries to get on w/ a bunt base-hit...
Mikey nails him, though. Sweet. Not as smooth as Mo'd be but verrah nice, indeed.

Happy Jack up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Double...
Q got nailed in wrist, too. I wonder if he stays in w/ that one.

Bay's up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 6:59 PM CDT up reply actions

He grounds out to Lil E...
Happy Jack scores.

Nady follows by flying out to Aubrey Huff to end the inning.

Now, where's my 3-run HR?;-)

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Top of the 4th...
Luke leading off.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:03 PM CDT reply actions

Doumit up. Howsabout a DP here?

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:11 PM CDT reply actions

He walks...
Bautista up.

Totally have the triple play lined up here. Hirshy Bar is done, anyway. No idea who's coming in.

Albers was warming in the first but no clue who'd be coming in now.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmm...
It's Russley. Wow. C'mon, dude, clutchness rules the day here.

Not a triple play but DP. That works.

Paulino advances to 3rd.

Chacon up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

He flies out to Aubrey on the first pitch.

FUCK YEAH!
2-run bomb for Lance!

Luke up

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:48 PM CDT up reply actions

He grounds out to Happy Jack...
or did he?

Doesn't matter, ump said he did.

No matter, Chacon just plunked Aubrey. Or, as Bidge would say, he took one for the team...

And he's up. Double plunkage? Double? Another 2-run bomb? Or just a base-hit to bring it w/in run and let Lil E do the hard work?

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Chacon is done...
Sharpless in to pitch.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Bidge is on...
a shattered bat gets Bidge a single. Wow. Like it came right near Bautista.

Runners advance on a PB. I hope it's a PB, anyway, cuz the pitcher doesn't deserve a WP on that.

Lil E up. C'mon, baby!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions

He flies out to Bay...
to sac Aubrey home.

Nice.

Q up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 7:56 PM CDT up reply actions

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:02 PM CDT up reply actions

He's on w/ a double...
Enough 'Ski, please.

Particularly w/ the heart of their order up.

Sanchez is getting intentionally walked. Ouch.

Bay up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:06 PM CDT up reply actions

'Ski done....
it's fitting that HE has to walk Sanchez instead of whomever relieves him cuz he's stunk and deserves to get stuck w/ the runs.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Chadley's in...
this is either going to be beautiful or suckful.

C'mooooon, CHADLEY!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:09 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm gonna cry...
that was fucking beautiful.

Duh me...
Lance is obviously being intentionally walked.

Luke up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Fuck. He flied out to
Nady to end the inning.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Pirate Guys
advancing the case that if Duffy had missed the ball, Ensberg still may not have scored.

They may be right.  Morgan knew he had to tag and if Dufy misses the ball would have been at his feet.

'Course a Lamb double would have meant Luke's flyout scored a run

That hurt.

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 8:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Bottom of the 7th...
Lidge in to pitch.

Nady leading off.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:21 PM CDT reply actions

OMG...
Lidge pitching to Q? This could be an adventure, lol!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:23 PM CDT up reply actions

who actually makes a pretty sweet back-handed stab.

Yay, Baby Giraffe!

Doumit up.

He Kd swinging...
all three strikes were swinging, all on sliders. Verrah nice.

Bautista up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:28 PM CDT up reply actions

He Ks looking...
at a slider actually thrown in the zone! Verrah nice.

Yes, I know he owns the Pirates, lol! But it's still fun to watch, lol!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:31 PM CDT up reply actions

It's strange getting bits and pieces of this game
I took my little radio with me since the radio in my car doesn't work, got to hear it go to 3-1 Pirates and then the batteries started dying.  Turned it off and turned it back on for a few seconds whenever I stopped to take a picture.  The next time I turned it on, heard the score was 6-1 Pirates and I was thinking "Well damn...".  Then I make my final stop, get back in the car and turn the radio on and it's 6-5.  Only problem was, when I heard that score, Quintero flied out to end the top of the 6th.

Maybe I should just leave the radio off here? lol

by matt s on Sep 27, 2006 8:26 PM CDT reply actions

Top of the 8th...
Aubrey leading off.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:32 PM CDT reply actions

If his spot in the order comes up again, we'd be in real good shape anyway. . . .

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 8:36 PM CDT reply actions

Whoops
Pirates guys didn't bother to announce Bruntlett

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

That...
and CJ pinch-hit way back in the 5th.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:38 PM CDT up reply actions

He Ks. Damn.
Burkie in to pinch hit for Q. Dunno if I agree w/ this, but okay. I assume he's playing 2B and Bidge is done. Or something.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions

He flies out to Nady to end the inning...
I've gotta say--I was amused to see Lidge on deck. If a bit frightened, lol!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Mikey Chops up.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

They're intentionally walking Lance here. Obviously.

Wheeler Wanted
to go after Sanchez

I think Gar is right.

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 9:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Except
I would have gone after Bay who's what 1 for 12 1 for 13 off Wheels

Usually Wheels control is good enough where you don't mind loading the bases, but he's tired right now.

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Obviously Gar
has a little roll going right now, I should know better.

But you might wanna bring in someone else for the bottom of the twelfth, Phil.

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions

meh...
the winning run was already on 3rd and there's no safety net, only way any additional run scores there is on a HR. The idea really doesn't bother me there since there were already two outs.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions

He grounds out to Mikey to end the inning...
That was some fucking superb, clutch pitching in that AB. Bless ya, Danley!

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Top of the 12th...
Lance leading off.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Saving Ausmus
from goat status, after he alligator armed a foul that dropped into the Houston dugout from Bautista.

Weird that he didn't take his helmet off either.

Great play by Lane, great play . . .

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 10:11 PM CDT up reply actions

it was indeed...
altough I think Brad's only crime there is in not having long enough arms.

And he never takes off his helmet when going after foul balls. Like ever.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions

No
He alligator armed it; he should have and could have reached farther.

Could be about the helmet though, never noticed that. . . . that's a very distinctive trait.

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe that's true...
but I doubt it has anything to do w/ the helmet. The ball fell right in front of Berry. I think he would've had to risked flying over the dugout.

And, uhh, we kinda need him.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 10:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Surprise
We disagree.

He did not have to jum,p over the railing, nor would I want him to, and I cede the helmet thing, but he simply could have streetchd his arms farther.

Pay the 3.95 and look at it on the MLB.TV when it becomes available.

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 10:28 PM CDT up reply actions

dude...
I paid for the year-long subscription, lol, don't need to pay for shit.

I can't understand for the life of me how Chris manages to keep striking people out unless his control is really THAT good.

I was under the impression he was a groundball pitcher, lol!

Top of the 14th...
Willy T leading off.

No more than 11 hours until the final game of this series. Jeez. Hopefully we don't play 2 tonight, lol.

Or, I know, if we do and we win, I suggest that we get two wins for it since there's the chance of a rain out!;-)

He Ks swinging.
Mikey Chops up.

haha, you made the air in Houston, Rastro!

He grounds out to Castillo.

Lance up.

Looks like we better watch what we say here, lol!

He's getting intentionally walked.

Sampson up. Damn.

He grounded out to...
Castillo to end the inning.

It's really friggin' sad that they had to explain to me what the card meant from last night's game hero, too!

Sheesh.

JD and Brownie.
That card from your game hero last night made the broadcast.

LOL!
Excited? I know I would be.

Hence my joke about us being good, lol.

We Fight Like Dogs Stros Dux
but this site owes a lot to you.

A lot and thank you for it.

hey, I enjoy a good argument...
so long as it isn't personal.

And thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Even if random Reds fans think I'm creepy!;-)

Yeah I know...
and thank you for sticking up for me. I appreciate it.

Sampson still in,

Nady leading off.

He grounds out to Half-a-B...
Paulino gets on w/ a base-hit, but Castillo erases him on a 4-6-3 DP just as quickly.

runners on the corners and 1 out for CatcherBradley.

He flies out to Duffy...
to sac Bidge home.

7-6, 'Stros.

Laner up. C'mon, baby, put a nail in their coffin here!

He pops out to Sanchez to end the inning.

Duffy leading off.

He flies out to OP...
Or Bautista did, anyway.

Cota tried to bunt his way on, but Lamb ran up the line to retrieve it and nailed him. That was a great play, even better considering it's the 15th freakin' inning.

Sampson done, Trever in.

Duffy is actually up this time!;-)

whew
glad that's over.
i can't believe Roy O is still in the dugout.

He Ks swinging...
Wow.

Amazing win here, I don't remember the last time this team came back from that kind of deficit (well, not including game 4 of the NLDS last year) and managed to win it.

Yo Rastro, game hero=bully. They were fucking incredible.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 10:59 PM CDT up reply actions

More Later
But this team is amazing.

Nominations for Game Hero gladly accepted (though I can't promise election)

Oh, and if you like Garner or if you don't like Garner, hasn't he been amazing for the last week?

Even the crappy moves pay off.

Wheels third inning felt like death for me.

And then putting yourself in the position where Nieve only goes one . . .

And batting Sampson with Miller available.

the news about the TV spot and this win (and two beers and two rum punches) have me agog.

I'm babbling.

Go Astros!

by rastronomicals on Sep 27, 2006 11:00 PM CDT reply actions

they
put your Lambbio pic up and mentioned the site by name.

i second the suggestion that the bullpen earned the honor.  it would be awful hard to choose between Wheeler and Sampson, in any case.

by loganck on Sep 27, 2006 11:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Or Lidge...
or Qualls, for that matter. Lidge was very good tonight and had 2 IP himself and Qualls DP was very clutch.

And Miller, though he only got one out, was just nails.

To me it's the collective group (minus 'Ski and maybe Nieve) that was just absolutely clutch when this team needed it. It was like the 2005 'pen. Reminded me a lot of their performance in game 4 of the NLDS, actually. Different personal to an extent but the same result.

by StrosDux on Sep 27, 2006 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

wow
I turned the radio off in the 9th again, turned it back on in the 12th to hear about Wheeler walking Sanchez and Bay, but listened long enough to hear he got Nady out and turned it off after that. lol  Didn't check the site or turn it back on since, so it's great to see they won.  Hot damn.

Also, that's pretty cool 'ol Maig got on tv.  Congrats =D

Congrats, Rastro
For getting on TV.  There's always been little moments that always made me think they might be reading this, but you could never be sure.  Now, we can.  Yay, Rastro!

And yay, Astros!  They replay the games every night on FSN here in College Station, so I think I'm going to stay up (and yeah, pull an all-nighter, which I planned to do anyways) and try to watch it all.  It's now in the 3rd inning.  Since I know we won, it'll be fun to watch!

Weeeeeeeeeee Astros.  Makes me wish I didn't work so much, lol.

Have fun, girl...
Other than 'Ski's one inning (the 5th, was it?) It was a great game.

by StrosDux on Sep 28, 2006 1:29 AM CDT up reply actions

I went on a midnight food run
in the fifth.  I got to watch that live during my break (even though I still! thought we would win after being down by five.  I even bragged it to the corps guys sitting next to me that we would).

This definitely makes reading for my speech class (ugh) more bearable.

by saylinara on Sep 28, 2006 1:43 AM CDT up reply actions

LOL! Smart girl...
and it's nice to have something to keep ya up when studying.
