Preview
The Astros rebounded in decisive fashion with a 7-1 victory over the Red Sox to level their series. Now the Astros send out Joe Musgrove to pick up the series win.
Musgrove dealt with shoulder discomfort at the end of May and returned to the rotation against the Rangers. He allowed two earned runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings on June 12.
Musgrove hopes to curb his trend at home, he is 2-5 with a 5.05 ERA in eight starts at Minute Maid Park. He has given up eight home runs in home starts compared to just one on the road.
He faces the Red Sox for the first time, and only former Ranger Mitch Moreland has any career at-bats against Musgrove. Moreland is 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs against Musgrove.
David Price has had an interesting season on and off the field. Price has struggled with a 1-1 record and a 5.09 ERA in four starts. Price has only given up more than three runs in just one start in 2017. He is coming off a quality start against the Phillies on June 13 -- allowing three runs on four hits over six innings.
Prince has labored in his last two starts, walking eight batters over his last two starts.
Price is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA in seven career starts against the Astros. Brian McCann has 29 career at-bats against Price, he batting .345 (10x29) with three home runs and seven RBIs. Carlos Beltran has 30 at-bats, he has batted .300 (9x30) with three extra-base hits and four RBIs.
Price is battling a blister on his pitching hand but is still scheduled to make his start.
