Alex Bregman hasn't failed to excel on the baseball diamond throughout high school, college, and minor league career. So it must have been tough to go through his first major league games without a hit. The pressure of getting the first hit only built with each passing game.
On Sunday, he was able to break the streak in his 19th major league bat. Bregman faced Mike Pelfrey in the third inning. Pelfrey threw a slider for a ball to open the at-bat. Bregman fisted a 94-MPH sinker high and tight into center field for the single on the next pitch.
Upon reaching first base, Miguel Cabrera tossed the ball to Bregman.Cabrera greeted him with a pat on the back before play started again. It was a fun moment between generations of baseball players.
