Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has shown new-found power to start the 2016 season. Altuve has hit home runs to all fields. More importantly, Altuve has gotten the Astros on the board in his first at-bat of the game in the leadoff role.
Altuve hit his third leadoff home run of the season on Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners. It was his second home run in the top of the inning. The other was a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first against the Tigers -- Baseball-Reference still classified it as a leadoff home run.
Altuve jumped all over a 2-0 sinker from Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma. The home run was a laser over the Astros bullpen in left-center field.
Altuve finished the game going for 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Altuve has six home runs on the season.
