Minor League Recap: Games of July 7, 2014

Teoscar Hernandez - Anthony Boyer

Your daily look at the previous night's Minor League happenings.

AAA Oklahoma City RedHawks: 10-1 loss to New Orleans (MIA)

-> Robbie Grossman: 2-for-4, 2B, R
-> Matthew Duffy: 2-for-4
-> Gregorio Petit: 1-for-3
-> Marc Krauss: 1-for-4, SB, RBI
-> Preston Tucker: 1-for-4

SP Michael Foltynewicz: 3.0 IP, 7 ER, 6 H, 6 BB, 2 K (loss)
RP Bobby Doran: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K
RP Patrick Urckfitz: 1.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K

Meltdown from Folty tonight. He has an 8.51 ERA in his last five starts, and his command has really been rotting away, with a 4.45 BB/9 in his last ten games.

Doran is on a decent run, with a 3.82 ERA, 3.31 BB/9 and 4.59 K/9 over his last ten appearances. He still strikes me as a reliever long-term, but the fact that he continues to get so much time in the rotation probably bodes well for his stock with the front office.

Grossman has eight hits in his last three games, and a 1.223 OPS in his last ten. Duffy is hitting .324/.405/.459 in his last ten games.

AA Corpus Christi Hooks: 6-5 win over Tulsa (COL)

-> Leonardo Heras: 3-for-4, SB
-> M.P. Cokinos: 2-for-4, R, 2 RBI
-> Ruben Sosa: 2-for-5, HR, SB, 2 R, 3 RBI
-> Carlos Perdomo: 1-for-3, BB, 2B, R
-> Andrew Aplin: 1-for-4, BB, 2 SB
-> Jonathan Meyer: 1-for-4, RBI
-> Tony Kemp: 1-for-5, R
-> Tyler Heineman: 1-for-3, BB, R

SP Ruben Alaniz: 4.0 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 5 BB, 2 K
RP Travis Ballew: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K
RP Chris Devenski: 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K (blown save, win)

Corpus is back to .500 with this win, and they're a game out of first in their division in the second half so far. They have 406 team runs scored, first in the Texas League. Their 3.38 team ERA is second-best in the league behind San Antonio.

Heras four multi-hit games in his last ten, and has drawn six walks during that span as well. He's also 13-for-16 in steals on the year.

Andrew Aplin now has 52 walks, just 40 strike outs, and 15 steals in 75 games on the season. If only he could hit for some more average...

A+ Lancaster JetHawks: 7-5 loss to Rancho Cucamonga (LAD)

-> Teoscar Hernandez: 3-for-4, 3B, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI
-> Jack Mayfield: 1-for-4, 2B, R
-> Austin Elkins: 1-for-4, R
-> Tanner Mathis: 1-for-4, R
-> Danry Vasquez: 1-for-4
-> Jobduan Morales: 1-for-4
-> Chan Moon: 1-for-4
-> Conrad Gregor: 0-for-3, RBI

SP Kent Emanuel: 5.0 IP, 5 ER, 10 H, 2 BB, 5 K (loss)
RP Zach Morton: 4.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 4 K

Just a double short of the cycle for Hernandez. He's on a four game hitting streak now, and he's reached base via hit or walk in nine of his last ten games. He's up to 24 doubles, eight triples and 16 homers on the season.

Emanuel had reeled off three good starts from June 8th through the 19th, but in three starts since then, he's allowed 18 earned runs and has an 11.30 ERA during those games.

A- Quad Cities River Bandits: Off Day

Quad Cities will begin a three-game set with the Kane County Cougars (CHC) tomorrow.

SS Tri-City ValleyCats: 10-2 win over Connecticut (DET)

-> Derek Fisher: 2-for-2, BB, SB, 3 R
-> Ryan Bottger: 2-for-3, BB, 2B, HR, RBI, 3 R
-> Ariel Ovando: 2-for-3, RBI, R
-> J.D. Davis: 2-for-4, 2B, RBI, R
-> A.J. Reed: 1-for-2, BB, 3 RBI
-> Jamie Ritchie: 1-for-2, BB, RBI
-> Nick Tanielu: 1-for-3, 2B, R, 2 RBI
-> Bobby Boyd: 1-for-4, R
-> Mott Hyde: 0-for-2, RBI

SP Troy Scribner: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 9 K (win)

This game was shortened by rain to just the five innings. Makes the 10 runs even more impressive. The ValleyCats have scored 55 runs in six games this month. One of them being half the length of a regular game. Because of tonight being so short, as well as some home wins where they didn't bat in the bottom of the ninth, they've only played 47 innings on offense. That's 1.2 runs per inning on average this month so far. Whew.

Matter of fact, here are some current team offensive numbers and their league ranks: 130 R (2nd); 95 BB (2nd); .767 OPS (1st); 222 H (1st); 53 2B (1st). They're 16-8 and in first place in their division (second place team is the 12-12 Lowell Spinners).

Tonight was Fisher's debut game, and he just adds to a stacked lineup. With Boyd and Bottger blazing away at the top of the lineup, and now high-end power threats in Fisher, Davis and Reed following him up, the good times could keep coming. State College, the team with the slightly-better statistical offense so far, has been propped up by one guy hitting homers like a mad man; Tri-City appears to have the actual best offense in the league, now that Fisher hags arrived. Strap in; these boys could certainly complete for the championship for a second year in a row (and they just barely missed it back in 2012, too).

Scribner has been really good in the rotation, by the way; 1.57 ERA, 1.57 BB/9 and 12.13 K/9 in five starts for him.

RK Greeneville Astros: 15-3 win over Bristol (PIT)

-> Juan Santana: 4-for-6, RBI, 4 R
-> Jacob Nottingham: 2-for-3, BB, RBI, R
-> Sean McMullen: 2-for-4, 3B, HR, R, 5 RBI
-> Jason Martin: 2-for-4, 3B, RBI, 2 R
-> Ydarqui Marte: 1-for-2, R
-> Trent Woodward: 1-for-4, BB, 2B, R, 2 RBI
-> Bryan Muniz: 1-for-4, BB, 3B, R, 3 RBI
-> Ramon Laureano: 1-for-5, SB 2 R
-> Luis Reynoso: 1-for-5, R
-> Antonio Nunez: 0-for-4, BB, R

SP Dean Deetz: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K
RP Brock Dykxhoorn: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K (win)
RP Keegan Yuhl: 3.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K (hold)
RP Eric Peterson: 1.0 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K
RP Krishawn Holley: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 K

Deetz has allowed just the one run tonight in three games, totaling five innings, outside of that disastrous six run, two-thirds of an inning back on June 27. For Dykxhoorn, this is first scoreless appearance, and the second in which he hasn't walked a batter.

Martin is hitting .279/.392/.512 in his last ten games. He has four two-hit games in his last six, and four triples during that span as well. He has five triples in just 15 games so far.

Santana has five multi-hit games in his last ten, three of which have been four-hitters. He's hitting .364/.386/.515 in 15 games thus far.

-> Oscar Campos: 2-for-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI
-> Angel De Leon: 1-for-2, 2 R, 3 BB

-> Wander Franco: 0-for-3, R, 2 BB
-> Carlos Canelon: 0-for-3, BB
-> Jonathan Matute: 0-for-4, BB
