AAA Oklahoma City RedHawks: 4-1 loss to Round Rock (TEX)
-> Matthew Duffy: 2-for-4, RBI
-> Ronald Torreyes: 2-for-5
-> Carlos Perez: 1-for-2, 2 BB
-> Preston Tucker: 1-for-3, BB, R
-> Domingo Santana: 1-for-4, 2B
-> Marc Krauss: 1-for-5
-> Jonathan Villar: 0-for-3, SB, 2 BB
SP Collin McHugh: 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K
RP Paul Clemens: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K (loss)
RP Patrick Urckfitz: 1.0 IP, 2 R (0 ER), 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K
RP Jason Stoffel: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K
McHugh tossed a full 80 pitches tonight and didn't seem to be having any issues, so we can probably expect to see him back with the Astros soon; if he pitches on four days rest, we could see him against Miami this Sunday at Minute Maid.
Ten game hitting streak for Perez now. He's really been reborn this month; he's hitting .378/.489/.459 with eight walks and eight strike outs in 12 July games.
Tucker's progression seems to be right on schedule, compared to what he did earlier in Corpus. He's finally beginning to find his power stroke against AAA pitching, with a couple of bombs in his last ten games, as well as a fistful of doubles. He's hitting .317/.366/.605 with seven XBH and six strike outs during his last ten games. It would not at all be shocking to see him in the AFL, perhaps, and in Spring Training 2015, without question.
AA Corpus Christi Hooks: 11-1 loss to San Antonio (SDP)
-> Jonathan Meyer: 1-for-3, solo HR
-> Conrad Gregor: 1-for-3, 2B
-> Tyler Heineman: 1-for-3
-> Brandon Meredith: 1-for-3
-> Delino DeShields: 1-for-4
-> Ruben Sosa: 0-for-3, BB, SB
SP Kyle Smith: 5.2 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 3 K (loss)
RP Mitchell Lambson: 1.1 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K
RP Tyson Perez: 1.0 IP, 6 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 0 K
One of the runs Smith gave up reached base on a grounder deflected off his glove; another was a sac fly. All that just to say that, while it was far from a dominant outing, he really looked pretty good for the most part. 3.58 ERA, 2.18 BB/9 and 9.47 K/9 on the season in 70.1 innings for Corpus.
Don't look now, but Heineman might be waking up; he's hitting .314/.375/.429 with a trio of XBH over his last ten games. Despite not having a great year at the plate (though he's been decent), he continues to work counts and hasn't struck out too much (31 K in 58 games).
Three hits in two games for Gregor, nice start.
A+ Lancaster JetHawks: 11-8 win over Modesto (COL)
-> Jon Kemmer: 3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 6 RBI
-> Rio Ruiz: 2-for-3, BB, 2 R
-> Austin Elkins: 2-for-4, R
-> Teoscar Hernandez: 2-for-5, SB, R
-> Danry Vasquez: 1-for-3, BB, RBI, R
-> Jack Mayfield: 1-for-4, 2B, RBI, R
-> Chan Moon: 1-for-5, RBI
-> Jobduan Morales: 0-for-2, BB, RBI, R
-> Tyler White: 0-for-3, BB, R
SP Zach Morton: 5.0 IP, 6 R (4 ER), 7 H, 1 BB, 0 K
RP Patrick Christensen: 3.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K (win)
RP Daniel Minor: 1.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K
Hernandez hit .344/.421/.634 in May, a breakout month for him. He dropped off a little, still hitting well with a .293/.377/.576 line in May, but now he's back to his super-hot ways; he's hit .353/.426/.608 in July, with two homers, a triple and five doubles in 14 games. On the season, he has 27 doubles (4th best in the league), eight triples (2nd best) and 16 homers (11th best).
.317/.396/.585 with three doubles, a triple and two long balls for Ruiz over his last ten games. He owns an .848 OPS on the season, with 38 XBH in 95 games. He's also limited himself to 72 strike outs this year so far.
A- Quad Cities River Bandits: Off Day
QC is heading out on the road, beginning a three-game set against the Dayton Dragons (CIN) on Wednesday. They'll be back home on Tuesday, July 29.
SS Tri-City ValleyCats: 4-3 win over Connecticut (DET)
-> Alfredo Gonzalez: 2-for-3, BB, HR, RBI, 2 R
-> Mott Hyde: 2-for-4, R
-> Bobby Boyd: 1-for-2, BB, RBI
-> Juan Santana: 1-for-4, R
-> Nick Tanielu: 1-for-4
-> Derek Fisher: 1-for-5, RBI
-> Ryan Bottger: 0-for-5, RBI
SP Luis Ordosgoitti: 5.0 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 3 H, 0 BB, 3 K
RP Chris Munnelly: 2.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 K (hold)
RP Ryan Thompson: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K (blown save, win)
Fisher has reached base in each of his 15 professional games. He's sitting at .364/.478/.455 on the season. He has a double and two triples, but is still looking for his first professional tater.
Boyd is hitting .389/.500/.444 in his last ten games, with seven walks and just two strike outs. I don't know about you folks, but this has been a pretty shocking break out from a guy I think most of us sort of disregarded when the pick was announced. Still a small sample at a low level, but nice to see.
RK Greeneville Astros: 5-0 loss to Kingsport (NYM)
-> Yonathan Mejia: 2-for-4, 2B
-> Antonio Nunez: 0-for-1, 2 BB
-> Cesar Carrasco: 0-for-2, BB
-> Jason Martin: 0-for-3, BB
-> Ydarqui Marte: 0-for-3, BB
-> Bryan Muniz: 0-for-3, BB
-> Jeffry Santos: 0-for-0, BB (defensive replacement)
SP Austin Nicely: 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K (loss)
RP Aaron Greenwood: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K
RP Eric Peterson: 1.0 IP, 3 R (1 ER), 4 H, 0 BB, 1 K
A single, and then a double to plate the run, was all Kingsport got from Nicely in the first inning; then he buckled down a threw four goose eggs up on the board after that. Like a lot of young pitchers in the tandem pitching system, a low number of innings inflates his numbers a bit. He hasn't been awesome, but he's avoided meltdowns, having allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his seven games. Of note, this is just the second game in which he's limited the opposition to a single walk.
