OKC plays two, while Tri-City's offense explodes (along with others) in another fun and wholesome night on the farm

AAA: (Ernie Banks Special): Oklahoma City Redhawks 2, Iowa Cubs 1
Iowa 6, OKC 5

The Redhawks and Iowa Cubs played a double header on Saturday, splitting the pair of games. The opener featured the AAA debut of Tommy Shirley, recently promoted from Corpus. Shirley went six innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out two as the Redhawks fell in that one. Rudy Owens had a nice start in the later game, going 6.1 innings and striking out seven hitters in a win. Marc Krauss had three hits across both games and Preston Tucker had two hits in the opening game.

Austin Wates: 0-4, BB
Ronald Torreyes: 1-6
Preston Tucker: 2-6, 2 RBI
Marc Krauss: 3-7
Max Stassi: 1-3

Tommy Shirley: 6 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 K
Rudy Owens: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

AA: Frisco Roughriders 6, Corpus Christi Hooks 2

A Rangers fan "friend" of mine sent me a picture of the lineups of this Texas League game last night (he was there). The Frisco lineup didn't include Rangers farmhand slugger Joey Gallo, and I mentioned that it was unfortunate that my friend didn't get to see him. The Hooks pitchers probably thought it was fortunate too, but Brady Rodgers was tagged for four earned runs in 5 innings of work while striking out four. Not a bad start but not enough to give the Hooks a chance to win. Telvin Nash hit his 12th homer for the year and Rene Garcia added a multi hit game. Other than that, nothing going on offense.

Tony Kemp: 0-4
Leo Heras: 0-3
Delino Deshields: 0-1
Andrew Aplin: 1-4
Telvin Nash: 2-4

Brady Rodgers: 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

A+: Lancaster Jethawks 15, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAD) 3

Of all the offensive explosions last night on the farm, Lancaster's may have been the biggest (no surprise there). The team combined for 16 hits behind Chan Moon, Jack Mayfield, Rio Ruiz and Dan Gulbransen. Lancaster hit five triples, including two from Ruiz. Matt Heidenreich and Ken Emanuel each threw four solid innings.

Chan Moon: 4-5, 2B, SB
Jack Mayfield: 3-5, 3 RBI
Rio Ruiz: 2-5, 2 3B, 4 RBI
Conrad Gregor: 1-3, 2B
Dan Gulbransen: 2-5, 3B

Matt Heidenreich: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Kent Emanuel: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 K

A: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 9, Quad Cities 8

Brett Phillips was the star at the plate in this one, lauching two doubles for a three-hit night. Phillips has excelled in all aspects of his game this year in Quad Cities, and it wouldn't surprise me if he's earned a promotion to Lancaster by now. Chase McDonald had a multi-hit game for the Bandits, but Jandel Gustave allowed six runs to put QC in a rough position.

Brett Phillips: 3-4, 2 2B, BB
Ronnie Mitchell: 1-5, 3 K
Tyler White: 2-4, 2B
Chase McDonald: 2-5, 2B
James Ramsay: 0-4

Jandel Gustave: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

High-A Short Season: Tri-City 9, Williamsport Crosscutters (PHI) 5

The Valley Cat's offense came through again with a 17 hit performance, marked by J.D. Davis' 5th homer of the season and multi-hit games from A.J. Reed, Bobby Boyd, and Terrell Joyce. Reed had two doubles and is now hitting .313, while Derek Fisher added a triple for a team that is so loaded with advanced college bats it's scary. Troy Scribner pitched six innings of scoreless, one-hit ball and continues to impress with a 1.24 ERA and a 38:7 K:BB ratio in Tri-City.

Bobby Boyd: 3-5, SB(6)
Derek Fisher: 1-5, 3B
J.D. Davis: 3-5, 2B, HR (5)
A.J. Reed: 2-5, 2 2B
Terrell Joyce: 2-3, 2B

Rookie: Pulaski Mariners 11, Greeneville Astros 10

Jason Martin: 1-4, 2B, BB
Juan Santana: 1-5, 2B
Cesar Carrasco: 1-4, BB
Jacob Nottingham: 3-4, 2 2B
Ydarqui Marte: 1-5, 3 RBI

Reymin Guduan: 3.1 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

GCL: Astros 7, Yankees 5

Kristian Trompiz: 2-5
Dexture McCall: 2-5
Randy Cesar: 2-5, HR (1)
Luis Payano: 1-5

Harold Arauz: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

DSL: Astros Blue 2, Athletics 1

Wander Franco: 0-4
Joan Mauricio: 1-3

Edwin Villaroel: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
