Pitching matchup

LHP Brett Oberholtzer (2-7, 4.66 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) vs. RHP Jake Peavy (1-7, 4.64 ERA, 1.44 WHIP)

The move that was lingering this entire week has finally happened. Collin McHugh has been starched from his scheduled start Saturday, and Brett Oberholtzer make the start in his place. McHugh had been battling a blister on his throwing hand, it appeared to really affect him in his last start against Angels on July 6 - he was only able to four innings in game with multiple visits from the Astros staff. McHugh has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, no word if it's retroactive on a certain date.

Oberholtzer has been held out his scheduled start in Triple-A Oklahoma City waiting for his call up to replace McHugh. There was on clear answer until yesterday. The Astros 'sixth-man' has bounced between Houston and Oklahoma City multiple times this season. His last start in Triple-A on June 21, Obie went seven innings against Tacoma - giving up three runs on seven hits. TCB's editor put it best, the lefty failed his interview in his last major league start on July 3 - giving up five runs over 6.1 innings against the Angels.

Dustin Pedroia is 2-for-3 in his career against Oberholtzer. Stephen Drew and Jonny Gomes are each 1-for-3 with a double against the Astros' lefty.

Jake Peavy maybe auditioning for a new team today, there is a large amount of smoke around Peavy in trade rumors. It has been the best of season for the Red Sox veteran, Boston hasn't won a start by Peavy since May 29. He was pedestrian for the most part in June, posting a 5.40 ERA in six starts. But, he has shown life in his last two starts - allowing just three earned runs over his last 12 innings pitched.

Peavy has one factor that seems to always trip up Astros hitters, this is the first anyone on the Astros active roster will have an at-bat against him. At least the Astros have George Springer back in the lineup, being down Dexter Fowler and Alex Presley is enough already.

Jake Peavy has an ERA of 6.00 on the road this season, while Brett Oberholtzer has an ERA of 5.60 at Minute Maid Park. I suspect these teams will score a large amount of runs today. Springer tends to have a good game after a day off, Houston will ride him to victory.
