Minor League Recap: July 11, 2014

Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports

The 34th and later round has a big night.

New Orleans Zephyrs (MIA) at the Oklahoma City RedHawks

This was a slugfest that saw a total of 26 hits from both teams combined. Ronald Torreyes paced the offense with 4 hits of his own (if you remember, he's who we traded IFA slot money to the Cubs for last year). Asher Wojciechowski still appears to be broken. He was hammered for 11 hits in 3.2 IP. TINSTAAPP whether you are a believer in that mantra or not appears to be slapping us Astros prospecters around a little bit right now.

OKC loses 10-8. Record drops to 48-47.

Corpus Christi Hooks at the Frisco RoughRiders (TEX)

34th round pick, Jordan Jankowski, who played baseball at a college that has an enrollment that is 1/3 the size of Allen High School here in Texas, is starting to say, hey, take notice of me. He pitched brilliantly against the EasyRiders of Frisco. 8 Ks over 5 innings and only allowed 4 hits. All 3 outs that were recorded in the field of play were ground balls. Jordan is already 25, but this guy is putting together a nice little under the radar season. He's struck out 69, while only walking 17 in 68 innings pitched on the year.

Hooks win 4-1. Their record is up to 45-45.

Inland Empire 66ers (LAA) at the Lancaster JetHawks

Lancaster came back for the 2nd night in a row. This time it was from a 7-0 deficit brought on from that prospect which shall remain unnamed in this blurb. Rio Ruiz, Jack Mayfield, and Conrad Gregor decided to pick up their unnamed prospect friend by homering and leading the comeback.

JetHawks win 9-8. Record is now up to 52-39.

Kane County Cougars (CHC) vs the Quad Cities RiverBandits

The RiverBandits put up 5 runs, but it wasn't enough. Kane County hit 2 HRs on their way to 9 runs and the victory. Ronnie Mitchell had himself a night. He went 4-5 with a 2B. This kid has shown the ability to drive the baseball out of the park, but I wasn't a big fan of his BB-K ratio. Well, he seems to be slowly fixing that, in his last 21 games, he's walked 10 times while only striking out 14. Plus, he's another late round special, he was drafted out of Dallas Baptist in the 38th Round in 2013.

RiverBandits lose 9-5. Their record falls to 46-43.

  • C, Brian Holberton - 1/4, 2B, RBI, BB
  • SP,
