Jose Veras was just designated for assignment by the Cubs. Anybody interested in bringing him back for a second round? Astros BP was actually pretty great in the month of May after a very disappointing April. Houston added Albers, Qualls, and Crain in the off season and then brought in Sipp via trade. The BP is actually looking OK and Crain and Albers might be back by the end of June (MIGHT). Would anybody give Veras a second opportunity here? Anybody seen him pitch this year? Does he have anything left?
As far as his stats, he has a 8.10 ERA with a 6.22 FIP. He has a stikeout per nine of 8.8, but an uncharacteristically high walk rate of 7.4. His BABIP is only .286 suggesting he is not unlucky or anything, but his past performance has indicated he is serviceable. What do you think? Veras is 33 years old, so as far as age it would seem he might have something left?
