3 of the 5 guys Luhnow brought in to fix the pitching staff are on the DL. Springer's flaws appear fatal. Singleton started like a house afire and then faded. Wojo and Appel have disappeared. Folty was bombed to get the AAA season started. Nobody at A- looks like he can really hit. Correa has been MIA. DDA was plunked in the face. Wates is hurt again. Castro has forgotten what he learned last year. Carter is what? what? Is the no balm in Gilead (or Houston)?
But wait-- Springer was 3 for 4 last night. Recall that when he started pro ball he slashed 179/303/393 (8 games) and when promoted to AA he slashed 219/288/342 (22games). His move up to AAA is the only one that did not require an adjustment period. Might there be hope? Folty struck out 12 the other night walking 0. Might there be hope? By the end of this month all 3 guys on the DL are supposed to be back. McHugh might force Peacock into the bullpen and it might solidify as Peacock, Williams, Albers, Bass, Qualls, Crain and Zeid. Might there be hope? Speaking of hope, at this stage of their development I hope the Astros forego any LOOGY's and put the best 7 arms they have out in the pen. Maybe Stassi and Singleton will provide balm with their bombs later this month or early next. Maybe Castro can get his mojo back. Maybe Carter can to the extent he has any mojo. Villar is hitting as well as we could hope and his fielding has smoothed out except for a few errors recently that I did not see other than in the box score as I was out of town. Altuve has been Altuve. Rio Ruiz is doing OK. Correa has returned. I can feel myself grasping at straws and flinging clichés left, right and center.
Bring on the balm.
