Big League Weekend: Astros hold on for the win over the Rangers

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

Astros, led by Chris Carter's three-run homerun, take game one in San Antonio.

The Astros seem to have a way with getting the first punch against the Rangers. We will have to wait to see if like last year it was a ploy to claim self-defense, and proceed to thrash the Astros all season long. This game may not have counted, but the Astros have many positives to take away from it.

Chris Carter led the way for the Astros with a three-run homer. Trogdor cannot be contained by mere 271' right-field porch. New-comer Alex Presley added two doubles and a run batted in coming off the bench. Jason Castro was 1-for-1 with run batted in and two walks. George Springer drove in a run in two at-bats.

Jerome Williams started the game, allowed one run (a Adrian Beltre home run) over three innings. Brad Peacock had a strong outing, striking out four over three innings. Chad Qualls allowed one unearned run over an inning of work.

Adrian Beltre added another hit to go with his solo home run. Former Astro Chris Snyder is one the four catchers on the Rangers' roster fight for a job - collected two hits.

Matt Harrison had a rough outing, giving up four runs on five hits over three innings.

The Astros and Rangers take the field again on Saturday at 1:05 PM (CT).
