TCB's Astros Fan Favorite March Madness Tournament is underway. From now until the end of Spring Training 64 players will spend the next several weeks facing off in a head to head public vote to determine who advances to the next round and who will eventually be crowned the communities favorite Astros player. For more details check out the tournament introductory post.
The rules are simple, determine which player you want to advance to the next round and then vote. Vote subjectively, objectively, using your trusty magic eight ball or any other set of criteria. It's totally up to you how you want to vote! Votes for this round will last exactly 24 hours.
In this match-up
2 - George Springer
A top prospect in most other systems, George Springer is, simply put, the man. He does everything and does everything well. Last year he missed a 40-40 season in the minors by three home runs. If his defense is as good as reported, he'll be a candidate for the Rookie of the Year award at the end of the season. Make no mistake about it, Springer is ready to make an impact on the major league level for the Houston Astros.
vs
15 - Leo Heras
Leo Heras probably gets overshadowed by Japhet Amador (and his 315 pound frame), but there is still some intrigue with this Mexican League import from last year as well. Heras, who is still 23, comes in at 5’9" and 190 pounds, a fraction of Amador. But Heras brings a solid hit tool to the table, and surprising power for his small frame. He hit .310/.398/.519 with 11 HRs over 92 games in the Mexican League before the Astros signed him. Be warned though, the ball travels in the Mexican League more than Coors field, so the offensive stats are certainly inflated. It will be interesting to follow how his above-average Mexican League numbers translate to the minor leagues, and most probably AAA to start the year. -Idrees
