I have seen some people's top Astros prospects and other opinions on prospects. One opinion which has kind of caught me off guard is the love for Matt Duffy and not Jonathan Meyer. I really think Meyer has a legitimate chance to make it to the big leagues. I wanted to compare some stats for Meyer and Duffy.
Jonathan Meyer, 22, AA: 129 games, .260/.318/.403, 24 2B, 15 HR, 68 RBI, 3 SB, 41 BB/109 SO, 7.7 BB%/20.4 SO%
Now all this was done in AA Corpus Christi at the age of 22. Also from what I have read, Meyer is a very good defensive 3rd baseman.
Matt Duffy, 24, A+: 100 games, .323/.397/.553, 20 2B, 3 3B, 19 HR, 84 RBI, 30 BB/80 SO, 7.1 BB%/18.9 SO%
After 100 games Duffy was promoted to AA, here are the numbers:
24 games, .247/.295/.461, 4 2B, 5 HR, 10 RBI, 3 BB/22 SO, 3.2 BB%/23.2 SO%
So Meyer spent all of the 2013 season at AA at age 22. Duffy spent just a small part of the season at AA at age 24. Its also hard to judge Duffy's stats at Lancaster due to the "Lancaster Effect."
In my opinion, Jonathan Meyer is the better prospect at this point. What are your thoughts?
