Here are some stats from last year at A+ ball:
Aplin: DOB 3/21/91 278/376/424
DDA: DOB 8/16/92 317/405/468
Epps: DOB 12/10/88 275/381/503
Meredith: DOB 12/19/89 279/399/507
DDA played 2B while the others were OFers. The Astros are moving DDA to CF (where Aplin played last year) because his attempted move to 2B was a failure. CF seems right because DDS's lack of power makes him unlikely for a corner spot. On the other hand Aplin is reported to be a fine CFer and made only 1 error last year. However, Aplin is an inferior offensive player to Meredith and Epps so seems unlikely to supplant them in a corner spot. Does that leave Aplin on the bench? Perhaps the most important numbers from above are the DOB's. Recent Crawfish Box posts have reported that men who reach or play at AA when they are 24 or 25 rarely make extended runs in the majors. That says that Epps is the odd man out. Perhaps it will all work out when Springer moves up from OKC to Houston. Choose the OFer that is hitting the best and send him up and let the others play it out. BTW, all this mulling assumes Santana and Tucker play at AAA forming quite an OF with Springer while it lasts. Might it be better than the big club's?
