Astros Minor League Recap: August 4th, 2013

Scott Halleran

Promotion, Debut, Offensive EXPLOSION in the Astros minor league system.

OkC Takes it 5-2

The offense got a big lift out of two guys with big league experience on the offensive side of the game. Trevor Crowe was a perfect 3-3 at the plate and stole a base before being pulled from the game. It's still fairly early in his rehab, or at least early enough to play it safe with him. But, it was Brandon Laird who drove the runs in. Laird had two hits which also included a double. Jake Buchanan was the man on the mound and he continues to do what he does best, get groundballs. He doesn't dominate as he allows a good bit of baserunners, but its hard for them to advance due to his groundball tendencies.

Rollins Debut Ends With a 2-1 Win

David Rollins is an intriguing prospect for me. It's that whole JuCo thing. But, he's pitched quite well this year and was quite good in his AAA spot start. Well his AA debut was quite good as well. His delivery isn't perfect, but it's not a high effort one by any means either. He's a dip and drive pitcher which I like because it puts a lot of emphasis on the legs. It's tough to have good balance and posture with that style but he does fairly well with that. I'll be watching the remaining AA time closely.

  • David Rollins-5 2/3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 4/3 GO/AO, 79/50 P/S
  • Jonas Dufek-2 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO
  • Patrick Urckfitz-2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO
  • Max Stassi C-2-5, CS
  • Erik Castro 1B-1-4, 2B, SO
  • Michael Burgess LF-1-3, 2B, BB
  • Kike Hernandez 2B, CF-2-4, SO

JetHawks Send Duffy Out a Winner

After the JetHawks 6-5 win yesterday, Matt Duffy was given a promotion to Corpus Christi. Duffy has been better than expected as a 20th round draft pick. He was Bobby Heck's second to last 20th round selection and the last one to sign. Bobby Heck always did better than most in that round, I mean FO's don't expect to get any ML value and look at what J.D. Martinez has been able to provide.

  • Colton Cain-6 1/3 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR, 10/1 GO/AO
  • Michael Dimock-1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB,1 SO
  • Travis Ballew-2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 SO
  • Kenny Long-1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO
  • Nolan Fontana SS-1-2, 2 BB
  • MP Cokinos 1B-0-1, 2 BB
  • Luis Alvarez C-1-3, HR

QC Loses 3-2 in Walk-Off Fashion

The River Bandits picked up the hits, I mean Carlos Correa and Danry Vasquez had five between the two of them, but it just wasn't enough. Juan Minaya blew the save opportunity and allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose the game.

  • Brian Holmes-6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, 7/7 GO/AO
  • Daniel Minor-2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 SO, 3/1 GO/AO
  • Juan Minaya-2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO
  • Teoscar Hernandez CF-1-4, 2B, BB
  • Danry Vasquez LF-2-5
  • Carlos Correa SS-3-5, SO
  • Dan Gulbransen DH-0-2, 3 BB, SO
  • Bobby Borchering 1B-0-2, 2 BB
  • Jordan Scott RF-1-4, 2B, SB
  • Austin Elkins 2B-1-3, BB, SB

TC's Offense Leads to a 9-3 Win

The ValleyCats haven't been on the same run that they started the season on and even have experienced a losing streak. The great thing about baseball is that everything can change the next day. Well the Cats put it together for a game to really pile on some runs.

  • Zach Morton-5 1/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO, 13/2 GO/AO
  • Andrew Walter-2 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO
  • JD Osborne-1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO
  • Anthony Kemp 2B-1-3, 2 BB
  • James Ramsay CF-2-5, 2B, SB
  • Conrad Gregor 1B-1-5, 2B
  • Jake Rodriguez C-0-4, BB, 3 SO
  • Ronnie Mitchell RF-3-5, 2B
  • D'Ande Toney LF-1-1, BB, SB
  • Jon Kemmer LF-1-2, 2B

Greeneville Blasts Off for 17 runs!

Don't even need to tell you the score, you should know that 17 runs means win...it's not the Cal League guys! When you hit like that, you don't even need Jordan Mills stellar outing. You know, the outing in which you only allow two base runners and nearly half of your outs come via the strikeout. As for the offense, there's not really a story to tell. There's just so much going on that a list is the only thing that gives it justice.

  • Jordan Mills-5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 SO, 5/0 GO/AO
  • Austin Chrismon-3 IP, 2 H,1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 4/2 GO/AO
  • Tyler Brunnemann-1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 SO
  • Marc Wik LF-4-5, 3B, SO
  • Tyler White 3B-2-4, HR
  • Edwin Gomez DH-0-3, 2 BB, SO
  • Chase McDonald 1B-3-4, BB
  • Ariel Ovando RF-2-4, 2B, HR, BB
  • Juan Santana 2B-1-4, HR
  • Brian Holberton C-2-4, 2B, BB, SO
