Preview

Where has this offense been all my life? I couldn't have asked for a better game. It was dollar hotdog night, I had my fill. The Astros had their fill of Jay's pitching, scoring 12 runs on 15 hits. They now face Chien-Ming Wang, who returns to the Juice Box for the first time since June 15, 2008. That was the day Wang suffered a right foot injury rounding third, and hasn't been the same since. (This was also the game that spawned one of the greatest headlines in sports history. But, let's not get off track.)

Wang required surgery to repair the two torn ligaments in his foot, returning to the Yankee rotation at the start of the 2009 season. There he had little success, Wang had a record of 0-3 with a 34.50 ERA in his first three appearances. By the end of April, New York sent Wang to the minors to work on his mechanics. He would later have shoulder surgery to end his 2009 season.

The right-hander would spend the next few seasons with the Nationals on and off the disabled list. Wang would make a total 21 major league appearances over three years in Washington. This season, Wang singed a minor league contract with the Yankees in late March. Having not made the major league roster, Wang requested to be released.

He then signed with the Blue Jays on June 9, making his first start for Toronto on June 11. Wang allowed five runs over 7.1 innings against the White Sox in that start. He then followed up with one run allowed over 13.1 innings against the Rangers and Orioles. That was the high, now for the low. Wang failed to get out of the second inning in his next two starts giving up 13 runs over 2.1 innings against the Red Sox and Tigers. The Jays designated Wang on July 5, and was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo. In Buffalo, Wang had a 4-3 record with a 3.18 ERA over eight starts. This appears to be a spot start for Wang and a quick return to Buffalo.

Wang will struggle to get into the low 90's, but still has nice break to his sinker. He will be dealing with a hot Astros lineup, lead by L.J. Hoes who was flying around the base paths line last night's game. Hoes had two hits, two walks, and scored three runs. Matt Dominguez had a two walks (That's right. TWO WALKS.) and a home run. In total, the bottom of the Astros lineup (Matty D, Brett Wallace, Brandon Barnes, and Jonathan Villar) went 7-for-12 and scored eight of the Astro's 12 runs.

On the mound today for the Astros is Brad Peacock, Houston's bulldog pitcher has been sharp thus far since returning to the rotation. Peacock has a 1-1 record with a 1.86 ERA in the month of August. He has given up only 4 runs over his last 19.1 innings. This includes in most recent start against the Angels, where he held the Halos scoreless over 6.1 innings.

Jose Reyes is 1-for--3 in his career against Peacock. He once again showed his quality as a lead-off hitter, reaching base in two of his four at-bats and seeing 13 pitches in his first two at-bats. Brett Lowrie showed his mammoth strength as he deposited a home run ball on the train tracks last night. The bottom of the Jays' lineup also found success, Anthony Gose and Ryan Goins both went 2-for-4 last night.
