Astros Minor League Recap (8/14): Carlos Correa Real Good, Jason Lane Strikes Out Jon Singleton

Recapping the best farm system in baseball, where a former Astros outfielder stuck out one of the Astros top prospects.

Vote for Springer

Go vote for George Springer. He's nominated for USA Today Minor League Player of the Year award. The dude is a huge part of the Astros future, and with 32 bombs and 38 steals, he's as deserving as any prospect. The Astros need to win something this season, so go vote for George!

Jason Lane Strikes Out Jon Singleton?

Normally I'd save this for the game recaps, but this is too good to be true.

In case you hadn't heard, former Astros outfielder, Jason Lane, has revived his career as a Minor League PITCHER in the Padres organization. On Wednesday night, he lowered his ERA to 6.00 on the season, throwing 3.2 shutout innings against the RedHawks, STRIKING OUT Jonathan Singleton in the process. Singleton and Springer were a combined 0-3 off of Lane.

Oklahoma City (69-56)

The Redhawks lost their fourth consecutive game in the worst way possible. They held a one-run lead going into the ninth inning, where Hector Ambriz (SURPRISE!!!) allowed a walk-off three-run home run. To add insult to injury, Jason freakin' Lane went nearly four shutout innings against the Hawks.

Corpus Christi (72-50)

Nick Tropeano pitched well – which has been somewhat of a rarity lately – but the Hooks failed to score a run against a makeshift group of pitchers, after Royals top prospect, Kyle Zimmer, left the game with arm stiffness. The loss marks the third straight for the Hooks. Below are the depressing details.

Lancaster (72-50)

Joe Sclafani continues his impressive season, after being selected in the 13th round of the 2012 draft, but I'm afraid he's simply reaping the benefits of Lancaster. Check out the home and away splits.
