Yu Darvish on the mound, the Astros in a tailspin, and a get-away day game - sounds like a recipe for disaster. I hope there isn't a NO HITTER or PERFECT GAME. (Adjusting my Astros cap covered in tinfoil) That should be enough to revise jinx Darvish's outing. Trust me, I'm an expert.
The Astros will need all the help they can get against Darvish, though his perfect game bid earlier this season was broken up by a mere Triple-A shortstop. The Japanese import is on another masterful role, he is 3-1 with a 1.37 ERA over his last start. In his most recent start, Darvish gave two first inning home runs to Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun in a 8-3 Rangers win.
Darvish is 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA against the Astros this season, including a near perfect game in the first series of the season. The last time Darvish gave up more then three runs in a start was in fact against Houston. The 'Stros scored five runs off the right-hander, including a two-run homer by Brandon Barnes.
The current roster of Astros as a team are batting .158 in their careers against Darvish. Jose Altuve has had the roughest time, he is hitless in 12 at-bats against Darvish. Jason Castro and Brett Wallace, each have a double in seven-plus at-bats against today's Rangers starter. Matt Dominguez has two home runs in six at-bats. I also expect to see Marc Krauss in the lineup or pitch hitting today, he is 2-for-3 against Darvish.
On the mound today for the Astros is (copy and paste the last name) Brett Oberholtzer. Obe' has been nothing short of magnificent in his firs two major league starts. He hasn't given up an earned run over his first fourteen innings. He has eight strikeouts and two walks over these two starts. Obe' made his last relief outing in Arlington on July 5 before joining the rotation. Mitch Moreland hit a double, and Leonys Martin drove him with single for the lone run given up by Obe' in 3.1 innings.
