Go get yourself a bag of jolly ranchers or skittles or m and ms. then seperate all the good flavors from the bad. For this exercise sake say that you only love yellow skittles but red skittles you can live with and blue ones youll try but then youll toss out and imagine everything else is like a poison. say you get the 100 bag and you share it with 29 other people. one person takes 1 and gets a yellow skittle and another get a red and your getting to the bag of skittles late. So you manage to get a blue one and a red and another blue but you also get a black which is poisonous but like a light poison which can be taken out with like a jolt of energy.
OK NOW HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO BASEBALL.
Well its my idea of the astros free agency. Although this scenario is probably more suited towards the draft it can be used for fa to. Greinke and hamilton are the yellow skittles. A few other high priced vets are to. then you got your keppinger who is like a red one. Then theres pena whos a blue and so was ankiel. then theres CEDENO who was a poison one which was only replaced by the energy of villar. Get my drift? Interesting thought right ?
Ok now lets take a comprehensive look at years past
Im gonna start at the first 100 loss season. In the first 100 loss season we trade pence and bourn and people the next year think o this is a horrible team they wont improve theyll break a loss recored. So last year no pence no bourn no berkman and no oswalt. we end up losing 1 more game then the season previously and we trade wandy and happ and lyon. ok so this year no wandy no pence no bourn no berkman no happ no chris johnson no lee and before todays lost we were on pace with last years team. Improvement? NO Decline? NO stagnation? possibly
if next year the prospects come up and we start to win then maybe we could end up with a record that would be something like we had to earn the springer pick or the castro pick.
Now no we wont repeat a magical 05 year next year. And we may not even get the 6 or 7th worst record like i look for. but theres hope in the horizon.
