2015 Astros lineup

Took a close look and here is what I predict for opening day 2015, barring FAs:

1. Grossman RF

2. Springer CF

3. Wallace 3B

4. Singleton 1B

5. Castro C

6. Carter DH

7. Krauss LF

8. Villar SS

9. Altuve 2B

My biggest surprise was Grossman, but if he lives up to historical OBP, that ability will be desperately needed. I discovered a real lack of lead-off capable players with a viable OBP in the Astros system that will be ready opening day 2015. I think Springer and Grossman could flip-flop. My second surprise was Altuve at 9. He's got a pretty decent MLB sample size now and his OBP and OPS are not good in general, and poor for top of order candidates. I love him, but I think DDJ puts him out of a job mid 2015. I was also surprised to see Krauss make it. Here's why: Santana repeats AA next year, and outside of him, there is a serious dirth of outfield talent in the system. Krauss has the best upshot of everyone we have that would be ready in '15. Plus, he might pan out very bright. However, outfield is most likely the place Lunhow spends money on an FA. And probably next year. Barnes and Maxwell could be good extra outfielders. JD Martinez just isn't rising to his ceiling, and his floor is too pedestrian. Castro and Carter have proved they are solid starters, still with upside. Singleton will be solid gold despite speed bumps. Villar is having his best year and will be a great stand in for Correa. I like Dominguez a lot, but unless he develops even more power, he wont make it as a starter. His OBP and OPS are horrible, always have been, and always will be, and his slick fielding doesn't make up for it. There's a reason we got him for a bottomed-out Carlos Lee. He'll get to play next year, at least until Singleton is called up, crowding Wallace to 3B. If he improves into a 25-30 HR, 90 RBI guy I suppose that's lovely for the 8 hole and maybe he stays. But he's gonna get crowded out sooner or later. Either Villar or Ruiz plays 3B by 2016. Anyway, 2015 lineup will be a lot of fun to watch. I predict Astros lead the league in homers and strikeouts, but by 2016 Ks will drop and we'll lead the league in runs scored.

Love to hear everyone's thoughts!
