Well this is exciting! How about the list of guys the Astros will likely have at Spring Training next year? I'm going to assume Lyles is there, and Norris doesn't get traded, so that's Wojo, Cosart, Folty, Buchanon, Tropeano, David Martinez, and even Mark Appel all with outside shots at the rotation. Throw in established guys like Harrell and Keuchel if they're still around and you've got one hell of a competition for the 2014 opening day rotation. If I was going to handicap it right now though, I'd probably look at it this way:
MLB: Norris, Lyles, Harrell, Cosart, Wojo (Keuchel in 'pen)
AAA: Folty, Trope, Buchanon, David Martinez, Mark Appel.
Appel may start the year at AA, and of course the guys at AAA may be paired up with guys like Oberholtzer and Rudy Owens if the tandem strategy continues. That's a very impressive triple A rotation, and really makes me think the Astros can find a very solid starting five from that group, especially by a couple months in when Folty and those guys have done their time in the minors. Should Cosart or Wojo struggle early, the Astros can move them to the back end of the bullpen or demote them to work on some things; that's an advantage of all the starting pitching on its way. If Harrell builds up value, he could be traded at the deadline just to clear a rotation spot. So of those guys at AAA, who do y'all think ends the 2014 season as a member of the rotation, who ends up in the 'pen, and does anyone from the established group get traded?
