Matt Dominguez Breaks Up Jake Westbrook's No-Hit Bid

Bob Levey

Astros' third basemen Matt Dominguez breaks up the Cardinals' Jake Westbrook's no-hit bid and awakens the Astros offense.

Heading into the sixth inning the Astros had failed to get a hit against Cardinals started Jake Westbrook. That is until Matt Dominguez stepped to the plate to lead off the inning with this hit:

Westbrook's no-hitter was no more and apparently it woke up the rest of the Astros offense because they put a four spot on the Cardinals starting pitcher.

After MattyD's home run:

  1. Brandon Barnes walked
  2. Jose Altuve singled
  3. RedHawks First Basemen (AKA Brett Wallace) hit a triple to drive in Barnes and Altuve
  4. Jason Castro hit a fly ball to left field that scored Wallace
  5. Chris Carter flied out to right field
  6. Carlos Pena doubled
  7. JD Martinez ground out to shortstop

What started as 9-0 deficit for the Astros became a 9-4 deficit and a slightly more interesting game. Of course with Lucas Harrell only going three and a third innings the Astros were already into the bullpen and in the next inning (and while I was typing this) the Cardinals struck back. With Travis Blackley on the mound, Matt Adams singled and then David Freese homered to left field to give the Cardinals an 11-4 lead.

At least the no-hitter is gone.
