They finally came to Chicago for the first time this year so I took the Chicago-an route to Wrigley on Friday for my first game this year. I jumped on the train early in the morning, got out at Union Station, walked down Jackson, got on the L (trains in downtown Chicago), and hopped off at Wrigley field. I got there way earlier than expected, so I had to hang out for 2 hours before the gates even opened. after awhile, I finally got in, and immediately headed down to the Astros bullpen to try to snag some autographs. Last year when I went I was only able to get 2, Lucas Harrell and Wilton Lopez. Yesterday I got Bud Norris, Marc Krauss, Dennis Martinez, Paul Clemens, Marwin Gonzalez, Chris Carter, Carlos Pena, Jose Altuve, Jose Veras, and Travis Blackley. So it was a definite success. I got to chat with Norris and Carter for a minute, shook hands and everything. Carter was a total goof, and Bud just seemed like a really cool guy. I could've probably gotten Wade LeBlanc or Hector Ambriz on the ball but I was running out of room on the ball and I was still wanting to get some other guys. This was my first time seeing many of these players so it was for sure interesting and definitely enjoyable.
However, that rain delay was not enjoyable at all... at first it was okay but after an hour, then two hours, then almost 3... it was bad. that was my first time going to a game with rain. You guys in Houston, be glad you have a roof hahaha... I've been to NASCAR races where it got pushed back a full day, but for some reason this seemed worse. I was at the stadium for 7 hours until the game even started.
If you watched the game, you probably know it wasn't that great. Keuchel pitched decent, the bullpen did pretty good, the offense struggled to get on base, and Chris Carter consistently hit the ball HARD. I gave Marc Krauss a one man standing ovation for his first at bat, much to the confusion of the Cubs fans around me.
However, it was still fun overall although it was an exhausting day. I may be headed down to St Louis with one of my Cardinals fan friends for the 2 game Astros Cardinals series in a couple weeks, and I'll probably catch one of the games at US Cellular in August.
