We're all assuming that the Astros will be sellers this year. What if the Astros bought?
Here me out; there's a specific kind of player that the Astros might find useful on their team. Suppose their bullpen continues to implode; would they think of trading for a 7th or 8th inning guy, or a solid lefty. This person would be under team control for 18 months. Would the Astros possibly trade for the perfect guy?
Whom would they give up? As I posted earlier, the Astros already have great depth and there are a lot of prospects who will be passed over. I'm thinking of guys like Bochering, maybe Blair Walters, Ruben Alaniz, Jio Mier. Perhaps Luis Cruz or Bobby Doran. Perhaps a team that sees how it could use Paredes better than the Astros can. What if we packaged two or three of these guys for a lefty corner outfielder who could actually hit? Or somebody who could be what Wilton Lopez was?
I know the team isn't supposed to be trying to win, but if July 2013 instead of December 2013 is a better time to find somebody for the 2014 season who can help us win ballgames, why not do it?
