Houston at Colorado, 7:40 PM CT
After trading late inning heroics, the Astros and Rockies take their act to Denver.
On the mound for the Astros today is Erik Bedard. Bedard has turned a page on the season after a short stent back in the bullpen. He has collected a 4.24 ERA in May over 23 1/3 innings pitched. These are the numbers of an respectable pitcher in the major leagues and improvement over a 10.32 ERA in April. The Astros lefty made one start in Colorado in 2012; scattering eight hits, four walks, and only allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings. Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler are both 2-for-3 against Bedard in that game. Bedard (8.83 road ERA) at Coors field, what's the worst that could happen?
Tonight's opposing pitcher Tyler Chatwood, was a former Angels' 2008 second round pick. He was trade to the Rockies for Chris Iannetta. The Rockies right-hander has made four competitive starts in his short time with the club thus far in 2013. After holding the Dodgers scoreless over six inning in one start, Chatwood was sent back to AAA Colorado Springs. Since returning, he has faced San Francisco twice in back-to-back starts. Chatwood has been extraordinarily impressive in those two starts, pitching 11 2/3 innings of one earned run - five walks, and eight strikeouts. In 2012, Chatwood faced the Astros in relief - giving up two runs over two innings. J.D. Martinez is 1-for-1 against the right-hander.
