Houston vs. Colorado, 1:10 PM CT
With one swing of the bat, Brandon Barnes washed away the bad taste of losing nine straight to the Athletics. For a moment, Astros fans had something genuinely exciting to cheer about. Time to turn the page to another game unfortunately.
Jordan Lyles will take the ball today for the Astros. The young right-hander has had a string of outings that put him at the head of the rotation. Outside of a rough start against Texas, Lyles has pitched 21 innings and allowed only seven runs. In his previous two starts, Lyles has pitched one-run ball and lasted at least to the fifth inning in both games. In 2012, Lyles faced the Rockies in Colorado; he pitched five innings and allowed four runs. Dexter Fowler was 2-for-2 and walk, a home run, and two RBIs. The middle of the Rockies lineup, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzi, were a collective 1-of-5 with a double that game.
Jorge De La Rosa is coming off Tommy John surgery in 2011; in 2012, De La Rosa returned to the rotation in September with a 9.28 ERA over three starts. It appears that De La Rosa has turned a corner in 2013; his ERA in May is 2.31. The Yankees and Cardinals failed to score a run of De La Rosa in 13 innings of work to start May. Cedeno and Pena are the only Astros with a previous at-bat against De La Rosa, they are 1-for-9 lifetime against the Rockies left-hander.
