Preview

The Astros welcome the fighting A's back to the juice box; Houston is hoping to improve upon their 0-6 record against Oakland this season. Houston hasn't had much luck against in general when facing the Oakland, with an overall record 1-11 lifetime. Erik Bedard goes to the mound today, aiming for his first win of the season. Let alone the A's.

Bedard has pitched his best baseball over his last three starts. He has only allowed five runs over 14 1/3 innings, which also includes 13 strikeouts and only three walks issued. The lefty has a 4.42 ERA in May, down six runs (10.32) from April. His last start in Pittsburgh was the first time Bedard had pitched into the sixth inning.

The Astros bats weren't able to break through against Tommy Milone, in their previous encounter in Oakland. Milone was able to scatter eight hits and allow only two runs. Carlos Pena was 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Oakland left-hander in that game.

Milone broke a personal five game losing streak in his last start, in a win over Kansas City. It was a tough stretch of five games before KC, it included two starts were Malone failed to give up an earned run to Baltimore and Cleveland. Milone, a soft-tossing strike thrower, has only walked only 12 batters over 9 starts. I fully expect a repeat of his April 15 performance against the ‘K'stros.

The A's lineup roughed up Bedard in their last meeting; he only retired one batter before giving up six runs in the first. The exclamation point came on a three-run Nate Freiman (remember that guy) home run. Jed Lowrie is leading the way with a .316 batting average over the A's last two series. Over that same stretch of time, Yoenis Cespedes is batting .250 with 12 LOB.
