Preview

Houston will once again try to bounce back after the bullpen failed to hold the lead late. The Astros have had to "bounce back" so many times; they look like a slinky with no spring left.

Heading to the mound today for the Astros is Jordan Lyles. Lyles, has yet to pitch out of the fifth inning this season. His last start in Pittsburgh was his best thus far. Lyles pitched five innings, allowed one earned run, 2 walks, and struck out four. Outside of his implosion against the Rangers, he has only allowed six runs over 15 innings of work. In a start June 20, 2012 against the Royals, Lyles was the tough-luck loser. He gave up only two runs on four hits, walking none, and striking out four. Lyle's downfall was extra base hits by Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordan to leadoff the two innings the Royals scored.

James Shields has thrown the forth most innings in baseball since 2009. In 2012, Shields had a better walk rate and strike-out rate then David Price. It's not hard to see why Kansas City went all in on Shields to lead their rotation. In three of his last four starts, Shields has lasted at least eight innings. The last time he gave up more then three runs in a start was April 7 in Philly. Shield will be a task by himself, it doesn't help that the only Astros that have faced Shield are Carter, Corporan - they are a collective 1-6 against the Royals righty.
