Hooray for a day game! Boo the Astros are losing
I missed the Astros first scoring play, It wasn't anything spectacular anyways. Chris Carter beat out a double play ball to allow Jose Altuve to score the Astros first and only run so far.
Bud Norris started the game but failed to get through the first inning allowing 6 runs, all earned, on five hits and three walks in .2 innings. When Bo Porter came to pull Norris he argued to stay in the game but was ultimately removed and replaced by Xavier Cedeno who had much better results in his 2.2 innings of work allowing one run on three hits, two walks and a strikeout.
So much for Bud Norris turning the corner.
Justin Maxwell makes such an excellent diving play that the camera man didn't think he had a shot at catching the ball.
Carlos Pena gets the scoring started in the seventh with this blast to right-center.
After a few batters reach base Marwin Gonzalez drives in Brandon Barnes with this single to right center.
Jose Altuve followed Gonzalez with another single to drive in Matt Dominguez.
I missed the final run scored by the Astros in the ninth inning so no GIF of that. It's another sweep by the Oakland Athletics which is very frustrating. The silver lining is that there were a couple good performances in this series. Brad Peacock and Paul Clemens stick out as two pitchers who did excellent work. Offensively, Jose Altuve is still hitting and Carlos Pena seems to be heating up. Defensively, Matt Dominguez is doing some tremendous work at third base. I haven't made many GIFs of his work because everything looks routine.
The other silver lining is that while the Astros are losing they're not losing in ways that make a GIF go viral, meaning they're playing fundamental baseball. They're just getting beat because of the talent level of the other team.
What are some of your positive takeaways from this series?
