TCB March Madness 2013: Jimmy Paredes vs Ariel Ovando

Stay connected for news and updates

Prospect infielder Jimmy Paredes vs prospect outfielder Ariel Ovando....Oh wait Paredes is now an outfielder.

TCB's Astros Fan Favorite March Madness Tournament is underway. From now until the end of Spring Training, 64 players will face off in a head-to-head public vote to determine who advances to the next round, and who will eventually be crowned the community's favorite Astros player. For more details, click here for the introductory post.

The rules are simple: Determine which player you think should advance to the next round by voting for that player. Arguments made for an advancing player in the comments section below may be used in that player's description for the next round. Vote subjectively, objectively or by using your trusty magic eight ball. Votes will last exactly 24 hours.

In this match-up:

23 - Jimmy Paredes

Jimmy Paredes was half of the return from the Yankees for Lance Berkman (the half that hasn't been turned into Carter, Stassi, Weiland, and Peacock). A speedster without a true position on the diamond, Paredes has been tried at second, third, and the corner outfield spots. While his tools haven't translated into on-the-field success yet, his pure athleticism has the ability to change a game in the field or on the basepaths. -Anthony

Vs

42 - Ariel Ovando

A big-bodied teenager from the Dominican Republic, Ariel Ovando showed improvement in a repeat performance at Greeneville last year, posting a .287/.350/.444 slash line. Still seen as raw, Ovando was the recipient of a $2.6 million signing bonus in 2011 by the previous administration. During an visit to Greeneville, Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said in an interview last year that he initially didn't know a lot about Ovando, but came away impressed with the outfielder's advances. -Glenn AKA wgr56
