Jonathan Singleton and Trevor Crowe Propel The Houston Astros To A 6-4 Comeback Win Over The Washington Nationals

USA TODAY Sports

Jonathan Singleton drove in three with one swing and Alex White didn't make a strong case for the Astros rotation.

Two guys who will not break camp with the big league club proved to be the difference in this game. Jonathan Singleton tied the game with a three run triple in the seventh and Trevor Crowe drove him to give the Astros a 5-4 lead over the Washington Nationals in Monday nights contest. Matt Dominguez would tack on an insurance run later in the seventh.

Offense

Astros hitters mustered very little against pitchers Chris Young and Henry Rodriguez, collecting two hits and two runs in five innings against Young and Rodriguez. Then the bats exploded and the Astros finished with six runs scored on nine hits and three walks. They also struck out nine times which is something Astros fans may see a lot of in the regular season.

Marwin Gonzalez and Fernando Martinez were the only Astros to reach base multiple times (unless you count Justin Maxwell's two hit by pitches) and did so via two hits. Then there's Jonathan Singleton who did this:

That's Denard Span in center field, by the way; he of a 8.5 UZR and 20 DRS in the outfield for the Twins last year.

Pitching

Alex White started the game and was very hittable. In five innings pitched, White gave up four earned runs on nine hits and two walks. He also struck out two batters. Josh Fields, Jose Veras, Hector Ambriz and Xavier Cedeno all followed with shutout innings. Overall the pitching allowed four runs on 12 hits and four walks, while striking out seven National hitters.
