Watch out! Big bat coming through! - J. Meric
The Astros score many runs and shut down a team that featured several players expected to be on the Blue Jays Opening Day roster.
The Houston Astros improve to 3-2 in the Grapefruit League with a 10-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays who featured several regulars in the lineup. While it could be said that the pitching should have been the highlight in this one, by shutting down a lineup that featured what could be the Blue Jays Opening Day lineup, George Springer stole the show with his two homeruns and five runs driven in.
Lets not waste time, George Springer went absolutely off today going 2-3 with the above mentioned two homeruns and five runs driven in. Other hitters having good days include Matt Dominguez (2-2, 2B), Fernando Martinez (1-3, 2R, 2RBI), Carlos Corporan (1-1, R, RBI), Brett Wallace (1-2, R) and Brandon Barnes (1-1, BB). Overall, Astros hitters scored 10 runs on 18 hits and four walks.
Equally as impressive, the pitchers held the Blue Jays offense to one run on nine hits and three walks. Wesley Wright was the only pitcher to give up a run. Alex White, Jarred Cosart, Rhiner Cruz, Jose Cisnero, Jose Valdez and Chia-Jen Lo all had scoreless appearances. Of particular note was Lo who closed out the game by striking out two Blue Jay hitters.
