"Improving our bullpen is a top priority this offseason," Luhnow said. "Bringing Chad back to Houston is a big step in that direction."— Jose de Jesus Ortiz (@OrtizKicks) December 7, 2013
Quick snapshot of statistics in 2013 with the Miami Marlins
5-2 w/ a 2.61 ERA in 62.0 innings pitched. An impressive 63.3% ground ball rate and a FIP at 3.32 and a WAR at .5.
Very glad to have him back, and a very solid addition. Qualls when healthy will bring a consistent strike thrower, who will not blow you away, but with a hard biting sinker that consistently sits at the 93-95 range (93.9 average velocity according to FanGraphs) which produces plenty of ground ball outs. Very much looking forward to seeing him back in Houston in the 7th and 8th innings. Now it's time to see the next piece to fall whether that be free agency or a trade to find a back end of the bullpen reliever to compliment Chad.
Welcome back! Time to celebrate:
